The past two days WFTV news reported to be very careful in purchasing jewelry while on a cruise. They reported how a couple purchased a diamond ring for $5,500 and when they had it appraised, it was valued at $3,500. They bought it from Diamonds International. I hope I got the prices correct, but they also mentioned another woman who purchased an alexandrite neckless with the same issue. The news station is helping them to resolve this problem.

 

I have purchased jewelry while on a cruise and was happy with my purchases, but please check your prices and do research before you cruise, or save your money for other activities and purchase jewelry from your local reputable jeweler.

Not overly surprised, although I'm not one to wear any sort of jewelry anyways. It always seems like it's too good to be true and comes off as a potential scam.

I guess it is not surprising for a cruiser to sold an over-priced item. Other than jewelry that we are not expert of, we canvass first prices of items we plan to buy at stores nearby or online. We refrain from being impulsive buyers.

Purchased a watch once on a princess ship- got home and looked it up- I paid half of the lowest price I found online so... (well actually I got it free because I paid with casino winnings so double yippee!)
