Elf on the Shelf....on a Ship

We will be sailing on the Dream Dec 11th with our 2 daughters who who will be 2 and 5. Our oldest actually turns 5 Dec 6th and it has been the tradition the last 2 years that their Elf comes to visit on her birthday and stays through Christmas, so she will be going with us on the cruise. Does anyone have any experience with doing Elf on the Shelf on a cruise? Just looking for ideas for fun things for the elf to do and to see if room stewards would possibly help having the elf interact with towel animals or other things in the cabin.

My youngest stepdaughter loves the elf on the shelf. I go crazy with it putting it all over the place, writing her super tiny little letters and leaving little gifts. The possibilities are endless on the cruise. Talk to your steward to help move him around if you leave him in the room. Also talk to the CD im pretty sure they will take it to a whole new level.

A suggestion that comes to mind is sneak the elf on your shoulder while getting pictures. Or have your waiter bring the elf to the table with your food. Have the kids go on an elf scavenger hunt. Or the kids activity directors probably have ideas too.

Probably a million places to get a picture of your elf on a boat. What comes to mind (and this is from someone who no longer has to worry about the little kids so you may adjust for appropriateness as necessary) is:

Hanging out on the piano at the piano bar

passed out on the casino bar

on top of a slot machine

hatless in the serenity area (as topless as an EOAS can get I imagine)

see if the Maitre-D pose with Elf on a desk in the MDR

Sneak him into the priority queue at guest services

sitting at a hole on the putt putt course helping shots go in

speaking of shots...lots of bars around the ship he could get into mischief...

I'd try to video him from outside riding up a glass elevator - (you may need a minder for him in the elevator). I mean he's inside looking out at you as you record him riding away...

Ultimate score would be with captain in the control room - may have to take the Behind the Fun Tour for that but you aren't allow to bring a camera on the tour. They will have a the photographer get a few shots of you in various places so you can sneak the Elf into those shots.

Various workout places - on a treadmill, stationary bike, etc, maybe get him a massage (or at least a picture of him on the table about to get a massage if you don't want to spend 150 bucks for an elf massage)

I'd see if I could get him a ride on the cabin steward's cart but as unobtrusively as possible so as not to impeded the stewards performing their demanding duties...

The beauty of Elf on a Shelf is he looks good just about anywhere. Take lots of pics of him everywhere. :D

On our last cruise, on Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Sea, we did a similar thing, except with my grandson's Batman. He left it in our car, and I asked him if he minded if Batman went on vacation with us, little did he know.

Batman with our room steward.

I also corrupted him a little

I have several more pictures, he went into all the ports with us also.

I am way past having to hide Elf on the Shelf.

The ones that our grandchildren have can't be touched after they are found. The elves have been had some strange adventures, but the kids know that they can't touch them or he will tell Santa and then that means trouble!!! LOL

The stewards are awesome with the young kids :) I'm sure if you explained what you want, they would help out. A nice tip for your steward's efforts would probably make the elf happy with you as well as the kids:D Have fun!!

what are you talking about? How will the stewards help out with a Elf on a Shelf? It sounds like you don't actually know what it is.

I have young grandchildren, so yes, I do know what it is. The steward might help by moving the elf while the family is at dinner, or reference the batman picture above with the bat towel animal.

I was merely making a suggestion to the OP. The others have done much better, and I commend them for that.

Thanks for all of the ideas, we have always done it where nobody touches the elf, not even Mom and Dad. She only moves when everyone is sleeping or when we leave the house, that is why I brought up the room stewards as I think they could be a great help. While we won't be able to take her around with us and the kids I think while they are at camp ocean we might "help" her sneak out and take some selfies around the ship. Then we can say she borrowed Mom or Dad's phone and share her adventures with kids that way.
