slidergirl Posted December 24, 2016 #26 Share Posted December 24, 2016 Yes, I agree .. Cinnamon Bay is one of the world's best camping grounds ... and St John has stayed pretty much pristine because the Rockerfellers donated the 80% of the land to be national park.harry That is why I would prefer the thousands of day-trippers stay at Trunk Bay - to keep the rest of the island pristine and wild. I actually know someone who is a schoolteacher on St. John (from a sport I was involved with). He tells me the increasing influx of cruisers because of the humongous ships is taking a toll on the infrastructure of the island. There just aren't the shops and restaurants to cater to that many people. Kind of like Cinque Terre in Italy - the cruisers now coming there from the stop in La Spezia is overwhelming the little villages.
St Pete Cruiser Posted December 24, 2016 #27 Share Posted December 24, 2016 We were just at Cruz Bay last month. Took the ferry from Red Hook over and back. I'm pretty sure they charge every guest on the ship "port Fees" if they tender there. It is a great place to go rather than staying in Charlotte Amalie with the mobs. Cruz Bay itself is rather small, but see the rest of the island if you go.
