dolphin2012 Posted December 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2016 First day ,first cruise! How exciting! Ive never been on the Glory but I have been on 7 cruises and I'm still excited on that first day too! Walking onto the gangway and finally getting onboard is just soo exciting! We always go to find something to have for lunch first and then the rooms are usually ready. If your ship has the Italian restaurant we always do that for lunch and its free and really nice in there. There are so many food choices and you will have time to try them all so don't worry. We then go check out the lido deck and watch others boarding and find a chair and relax. When our room is ready we go unpack and start exploring the ship. If you like to swim this is the time to do it for the pools and hottub wont be as crowded. Don't miss the sail away party, Its so fun to be waving and seeing the ship leave the port. Have a fun cruise., I know you will be hooked like the rest of us,
alias47 Posted December 31, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2016 1. I'd recommend (if your room is ready) you go through the excursion book if you haven't booked yet & go to the excursion desk in the lobby atrium (forgot what deck # that is on) to book what you want. That way you don't have to worry about that for the rest of the cruise. 2. If you like to gamble (at least for table games) bring enough cash so you can avoid the fee if you get cash from your sail and sign if you can. 3. Bring enough clothes/medications/etc for the first night in a carry on bag (bathing suits, change of clothes for dinner, whatever you need) since luggage may not arrive to your stateroom before then. tea4ular Posted December 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2016 Whenever we board a new ship we grab a bite to eat, sit out by the pool to eat and people watch. When cabins are ready we go check it out, and put away what we can and stake our "claim" on drawer and closet space. If our luggage has arrived we unpack. If we see our cabin steward we introduce ourselves and take this time to request - ice in our cooler, and say hello. We then start our exploration. Starting at the very top of the ship we make our way down and front to back (take the little map which should be in your cabin). We try hard to remember where we saw stuff we want to go back to. We check out the gym and spa and look for saunas and steam rooms. Before we know it it's time for sail away and muster drill. Cruising is super fun, and very exciting! Don't be shy about asking crew and other passengers where things are. Have fun!!
new_cruiser_75 Posted December 31, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2016 Great suggestions above! I'd like to add: 1: get a "drink of the day" while sitting by the pool people watching. I'm not much of a drinker, but these are sweet and tasty and fairly strong 2: tour the spa. You may be asked to "model" a service for them which equals free spa treatment. You might also skip this as it can eat up your first day... 3: eat in the dinning room at least once for each meal during the cruise (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). a: If you're bringing children, there is a kid's menu, but you have to ask for it. They/you can also mix and match from both menus.
CRocks Posted December 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2016 Get to the port early, no later than 11am. Once onboard, head to lido deck aft + the buffet. Glory is a GREAT ship, sailed her three times, and Miami is a great sailaway port. You'll be in awe the entire week. Might wanna hang near the bow leaving /entering port, the dolphins will often follow the ship out/in.
doneinne Posted December 31, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 31, 2016 Grab a drink and toast to being on the ship. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
crusinpsychRN Posted December 31, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2016 Get a deck plan from Guest Services and take a tour to familiarize yourself with it. You'll find out about getting stuck by the MDR--just walk through the dining room to get where you meant to be. Get a deli sandwich, ask for extra meat and to cook it longer. When cabins are ready, about 1 or 1:30 put your stuff down. Don't wait for luggage, it gets there when it gets there. Meet cabin steward, ask for ice, drink the wine or champagne you brought on board. Have fun! Go to trivia.
