GiGiGi Posted January 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2017 We are considering a cruise that includes Dubrovnik, Kotor, Taormina, Monte Carlo. Unfortunately, the only available time that fits both our schedule and the cruise schedule is in August. We know it will be quite warm, but what should we expect regarding crowds? August is very hot and humid here. You will find the old town extremely busy with tourist, most of them cruisers. As a local resident I no longer even visit the town from July until the end of October.
LondonTowner Posted January 15, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2017 We have been on land holidays in Croatia and Montenegro in mid June and during the day it was very hot, so imagine it would be quite unbearable in August. Everywhere will be very busy. We never go away in July/August for those reasons.
zqvol Posted January 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2017 It seems most of Europe is on holiday during the month of August. I imagine that it will be very crowded.
amazonracer Posted February 2, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2017 We were there this past October on NCL and couldn't believe how crowded it was and not the peek period. So will be packed! Cold to mild but August will be hot! Good and bad news I guess.
eclue Posted February 5, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2017 I guess we were lucky. We were in Kotor last August and the weather was spectacular - low 80's and breezy...at the Lady of the Lake it was cool. We did a tour with Mladen of MTours and he did a wonderful job. We are going back again this year in May and doing another different tour with him again. Kotor is a very scenic place, esp the cruise in and out. Enjoy!! eclue:rolleyes:
Grant2000 Posted February 7, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Kotor and Dubrovnik are beautiful cities but they are very busy when cruise ships are in town. Even in early October, there are lots of tourists. You should check with other cruise lines to see what offerings they have in the fall. We sailed with Royal Caribbean. http://travel-europe.ca/montenegro/kotor.html
kestrel Posted February 26, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 26, 2017 We were in Dubrovnik in early September several years ago. The weather was warm but not hot. We were told that it rained the last couple days before we arrived. So, you never know. If August is the only time you can travel, so be it. Don't worry too much about the weather. We took our Mediterranean cruise in August many years ago, also because that's the only time we could go. Yes, the weather was hot, but we still enjoyed the trip very much.
