diane.in.ny Posted January 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2017 We'll be on the Royal Princess, with 3,500 guests, stopping at Santorini. Right now it looks like we are the only ship in port that day :) Would love to hear some feedback about timing to get up to Fira. We are supposed to dock at 7 am and we have a tour booked for 10 a.m. So to expedite things, should we line up for tender tickets early? Or wait until 8:30? Or something in between? Or there is really no way to know how the traffic will flow? :D Any advice greatly appreciated.
Rare Hlitner Posted January 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2017 The problem going up is more an issue of how long you have to wait to get on a tender. The Cable car can handle up to 1200 an hour.....so if you are the only ship there is not a long delay since the tender timing limits how many get ashore at a time. The big cable car problem is later in the afternoon...if 3000+ passengers all want to get down to the tenders at the same time. Hank
diane.in.ny Posted January 18, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted January 18, 2017 So if I estimate about 2/3 of the pax are doing it independently, I guess we can figure we'll need max 2 hrs to get on top. As for going back down, yup, that could be an issue. We are in port till 7 pm so hopefully everyone won't be coming back at once :)
lachelli Posted January 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Does anyone know how accessible the pathways are at the top of the cable car and towards the center of Fira My Mother in law is traveling with us and she has difficulties walking up a lot of steps or step paths Thanks
Rare VMax1700 Posted January 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Does anyone know how accessible the pathways are at the top of the cable car and towards the center of Fira My Mother in law is traveling with us and she has difficulties walking up a lot of steps or step paths Thanks There are a few steps needed to ascend into the cable car station and then a few more inside the cable car station when you get to the top, then some more outside. The surrounding streets are narrow, crowded and not entirely smooth. It is worth the effort, though!
