Jess1228 Posted November 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2005 I just returned from a Carnival cruise and fell in love with the plush bedding. I'd love to get a similar set, perhaps for a bit lower price. Does anyone know of brands that would be of similar quality with a slightly lower price? Or do feather bed sets generally run high? Thanks, Jessica
cheshyrkat Posted November 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2005 I have tried several brands of down comfortors and feather pillows and I have to say I am VERY impressed with Carnival's. I am not so particular about sheet sets, but Carnival's were nice. If I wanted to cut corners I would probably just get the duvet cover, the down comforter to go in it and the pillows, and then get less expensive sheets and shams. I say that because of all the feather/down pillows and comforters I have had, I have always had some kind of problem. With the duvet, I always have a time getting the comforter to stay put in the duvet cover even with the little clips you can buy. I wake up in the morning with the feather part all squashed up in the foot of the cover and I am freezing to death! Carnival's set seemed to never do that and for whatever reason, the comforter didn't at all seem motivated to move around in the cover. I have also gotten up on my fair share of mornings to find that my own comforter has managed to squirm through the buttons of the duvet enclosure. I didn't find Carnival's did that at all. And I was watching to see how it would be! Regarding pillows, I find that eventually (within a couple of months) if you don't shell out $$ for a good quality pillow then you will begin losing the loft and if they're feather or down they begin losing feathers. Which doesn't much matter if you want a flat pillow and a bed full of feathers. I've got tons of them now!! But I like my pillows fluffy and Carnival's are in constant use and don't show any kind of flattening out. I had the synthetic pillows onboard and found them to be so good that I (as a down/feather pillow lover) could hardly tell the difference. They fluff up and have a weight similar to a very high quality down pillow and I even thought for a little while that maybe they had slipped the wrong pillows in on me... I'm going on Elation in December and during that cruise I'm going to critically evaluate the bedding because when I come back, if I'm still in love, I'm just going to bite the bullet and order the stuff from Carnival! :D By then I figure that I won't be making a rash decision. And besides, Carnival's pricing really isn't that high for the quality. I have down pillows and a comforter from The Company Store (http://www.thecompanystore.com) right now. Love the pillows (they cost me around $40 each...) but have trouble with the comforter as I described above.
damonadrienne Posted November 12, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Is this comfy bedding on all Carnival ships? We are leaving in 2 weeks on the Inspiration and would love to have squishy down bedding. Adrienne

Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted November 13, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Both Hubby and I felt the Liberty ship Carnival "Comfort Bedding", as I think they call it, was the best we had ever had on a cruise. In fact, it competes with our own bed. No, maybe our bed loses against Carnival's. If our mattress and box springs weren't only two years old, I would change. I liked the duvet cover and duvet, very much. Very soft and not at all stiff. I would like to have that set, but the pillow covers, duvet and duvet cover for king size represent an investment, no doubt. I notice Carnival provided a "luggage mat" to set suitcases on for unpacking to protect the duvet cover. Good idea.
ocngypz Posted November 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens n Things have had hotel weight sateen stripe linen. This is the most comparable. I didn't think the mattress was that more comfortable.. but I love the cuddly duvet and pillows... just like home!!
heymom32000 Posted November 13, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Yes, the inspiration has this bedding. Made dh and I feel right at home because we love our down comforter and knew it would be one of the biggest things we'd miss while on vacation. Carnival's comforter now has my kids all wanting one as well. hehehee

DGinLDO Posted November 13, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 13, 2005 I loved the new bedding!! My recent cruise on the Valor was the first time I didn't have to break out my flannel pjs to wear at night. :p The cabin was cold, but the comforter kept me toasty warm & comfy. I mentioned this to another Valor Vamp & she also admitted to bringing flannel pjs "just in case" but she also didn't have to use them because of the comforter. k
Kethry88 Posted November 13, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 13, 2005 I bought an all-down pillow at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $50. Expensive, but it doesn't loose feathers, and even after 7 years it still has most of its loft. I'd say it's worth paying a little extra for the quality, you won't end up having to replace it in five years.

Save your money to get the Carnival stuff because there is a lot of variation between brands and price ranges.
Nickymjw1 Posted November 14, 2005 #13 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Do they have this on the Celebration also? It is one of their older ships. Do you have to request the feather pillow?
cheshyrkat Posted November 14, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 14, 2005 I think the feather pillow may only be used in the suites. If you aren't in a suite maybe you could ask the steward. I don't know if they can do that or not.
