nancyevans Posted February 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Use your ATM card. See if your hotel has Ann ATM on site. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Capt_BJ Posted February 7, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2017 I too used my ATM throughout our Viking Budapest to Nuremburg trip (with extra days either side) and had NO problems btw, despite the warning that Euro was not recommended in Budapest, I found all prices to be in Euro in rest's and shops and often had to ask what it was in F as that's what I got from the ATM! I'd gotten some EURO from my bank so as to not arrive with nothing but dollars when we flew in, NYC to Warsaw to Budapest via LOT

Usually a good sign that you are in a tourist area and being offered a poor exchange rate, so always a good plan to ask for the local price then decide if you like the exchange rate or not ... I_r_a Posted February 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Hi R, > can anyone suggest how much local money to buy On day 1, take out $50 in HUF from an ATM. On day 2, you will know how much more you might need. Enjoy your visit. Ira

Rare franski Posted February 8, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 8, 2017 my point remains ignore the warnings that you MUST have F EURO is widely accepted in Hungary ..... It is, but in most places the exchange rate won't be in your favour. |At least, it wasn't on any of our 3 trips there. If you have euros, and don't want to take them home with you - use them. If you are getting money out from an ATM anyway, then figure out your transportation costs to the airport and go from there. Meals will be a bit cheaper away from the major tourist areas. If you are going to visit any museums, or the baths - you can look on line ahead to figure out what the costs will be. Fran

Fran We cashed some forints back into USDs at the Budapest airport and actually made about $ 4.00 on the exchange at the end of a cruise in late Summer 2015.
