eden6776 Posted February 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I note many med sailings next year have palermo as a stop. Has anyone stopped at palermo recently? How did you find it? My DH raised concerns about stopping there given the refugee situation. Not sure if he is worried about nothing... chinita415 Posted February 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2017 We were there a few weeks ago. No safety issues and did not see anyone that looked like desitute type. It was not my favourite port but it was fine. They replaced Tunisia with this after the tragic loss of lives due to a terrorists incident.

1fifthavenue Posted February 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2017 Sicily is a wonderful place, Palermo is a much better stop than Trapani as it is the capital of the island, which was once a great, powerful country. There are many Greek / Roman sites on Sicily, and a temple that looks like the Parthenon at Segesta - one of the best preserved in the world! Agrigento is also worth a visit. There's also a great number of Medieval castles
tactic Posted February 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 27, 2017 Palermo was on our December Splendida, felt much safer than Messina did earlier last year. There were migrants (our guess) in Messina but never saw anyone who we thought was a migrant in Palermo. We did a shorexcursion which was good value - mount pellegrino, Montreal and city tour with stops at an artisan shopping mall and Catherdral. Downside to Palermo there were long queues to get through security cabins to get back on ship, would not have been fun if it had been raining......
