May 14th - vista 1st time cruising Excursion question

Hello,

We will be visiting Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman and Cozumel and we are 6 ppl. I found the rates for the excursion from the ship to be to expense , any suggestion if we should wait until we get to the island and just pay a local taxi to take us to places?

You can do that, I would recommend doing a google search for each port to see what rates you can find for independent excursion operators, in many cases they will be cheaper than what the cruise line charges.

Do you know what you want to do? If you simply need transportation from the ship to the place you want to see, no reason to take an excursion. Same if you just want an island tour; many taxi drivers will be willing to negotiate a price for that at the pier. If you want a more fulfledged tour like Dunns river falls or a catamaran snorkel check out the ports of call board and TripAdvisor for independent excursions. They will usually be priced lower than the ship's tour.

You can also check out Viator.com or shoreexcursions.com or other sites ... keep in mind that for some ports Carnival controls all the tours and wont let other companies book "private" with their passengers. What types of things are you trying to do? In Cozumel we did the "Amazing Secret River" and it was the best excursion I ever did ... in Ocho Rios we did the "Extreme Zip Line" and that was also awesome.

You can book privately Carnival can't stop you. But the private company's can't come into the port compound if it is a Carnival controlled port. Also some have agreements with the cruise lines to offer to cruisers not through the cruise lines. I have done it in the past. Just do your research and plan plenty of time to get back to the ship cause the ship won't wait if your not on their excursions.
