Miami Airport to Hotels/No shuttle

Ships R Great

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on the 12th of Dec. out of Miami. We are booked at the Holiday Inn/Port. Of course, now that I am booked I check and find out they have no shuttles to/from anywhere. I know it will just be a hop, skip and a jump to the port but I am trying to find out about from the airport to the hotel. Has anyone tried to use MetroRail and/or MetroMover when coming into town by air? I did not do my homeowrk. The money I saved on the hotel will be eaten up by cab fares! I'm not cheap (well, my daughter says I am) but I am frugal. Don't want to throw money away I could use in the casino (tee-hee). Anybody?

Also, can we get a bus to the airport from the ship? How?

As long as your return flight is later than 12N, Celebrity will let you buy a one way return bus transfer from the shore excursion department. Though in the long run it will probablty just be cheaper to get a cab since it is a flat rate from the port to the airport. I usually stay at the Hyatt Regency downtown. and a cab runs me about $6.00 to the pier.

A cab from MIA to downtown is about $20... Another option is SuperShuttle... http://www.supershuttle.com/htm/cities/mia.htm

You do NOT want to take MetroRail or public busses from MIA to downtown Miami. You will go through some of the nastiest neighborhoods in Miami, it's not a safe option.

Taking cruise line transfers is in many cases more expensive than taxis, and it's a LOT less convenient.

And don't worry about not doing your homework, there are NO hotels in downtown Miami with airport shuttles and none with free port shuttles. The airport hotels have free airport shuttles but not free port shuttles. One way or another you still have to pay to go from MIA to downtown Miami (where the port is).

I MUST agree and repeat Trents comments. DO NOT take public transport. Take a taxi. The price quoted is per Taxi NOT per person and will take you directly to the port. No waiting in line & no problems! I speak from experience I was a doorman a few years ago at a major downtown Miami hotel and witnessed many people make this mistake 5 days a week. Have a great trip!

We rented a car from Alamo. They picked us up at the airport, we used the car all day and overnight to go to Target for sodas, to South Beach, to Bayside, to dinner, etc, and then we we retuned it, they shuttled us to the port. Total cost: $28.
