ozscotart Posted March 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2017 We like taking Alilaguna from the airport, goes every half and takes an hour to Rialto. Walk out of the airport and follow the signs. There are also water taxis, faster and much more expensive. http://Www.Alilaguna.it Sent from my iPhone using Forums
maryisme Posted March 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2017 I used a water taxi service for myself. It was way more expensive but was fantastic! It was my first time in Venice and my driver gave me a little off the cuff tour. I wouldn't do it any other way. I think it was $110 one way. Have a great trip! Rare KeithJenner Posted March 10, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 10, 2017 The two replies above are basically your options. It's then really just a decision for yourself as to whether to spend the extra money for the water taxi compared to the Allaguna. I believe that there is a kind of mid way option which is a shared transfer, but they don't seem to be all that much cheaper than the water taxi, and may not take you all the way to your hotel. You don't say how many of you there are, but that could make a difference. The Alilaguna is about $15 each, so the cost increases if there are more of you, whereas the water taxi will be about the same price unless you are a really big crowd. One other factor, just looking at the location of your hotel, it is a little way from the Alilaguna stop, so you would have to pull your bags along for a while, which can be hard work in Venice. The water taxi will take you all the way.
Bootman4U Posted March 10, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 10, 2017 We have used a private water taxi for our last three trips to Venice. They can be booked directly on line. You can get the "usual" deal or you can get the "meet and greet" deal which costs more. For the latter, somebody actually escorts you from the terminal along the rather long but flat walkway over to where both the water bus and the private boat taxis arrive and depart. These private taxis are actually what most of us would call a "speedboat" and they will hold several passengers. The driver takes you directly to your hotel assuming it has some sort of water landing stage or water access. "Cheap" it is not; worth it? Only you can decide that one. littlelulu01 Posted March 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Our flight arrived late. I knew we would have jet lag and wasn't looking forward to dragging suitcases in Venice so we took a water taxi. You can prebook one here https://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/biglietto_1.php You can always book one at the airport too but our with late night arrival we had an issue procuring one. Best 110 euro I spent! Avoided the hassle and door to door service. You still need to walk to the taxi stand along a covered pathway at the airport but it's flat and well marked. If you have a flight or train to catch after the cruise we found it easier to prebook a land taxi from ship to airport or train station. About 35-45 euro. bogofman Posted March 10, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Depends how much money you have to spend (waste) and how fit you are at wheeling your own bags We have stayed and cruised from Venice many times and always do the DIY transfer outside of the airport are buses that take you to the main bus station in Venice for a small amount ( maybe 5euros) tickets purchased inside the arrivals hall from the bus terminal its a short walk to the water bus ticket offices and stops. these water buses will take you to st Marks if you intend to use the water buses while you are staying this will be a good time to buy 24 hour or more tickets so you can hop on and off for 24 hours or more. they also will take you to the islands and the lido all included We have light weight 4 wheel cases info here http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/vaporetto_routes.htm
arran28 Posted March 10, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted March 10, 2017 So grateful for all your advice. We are a couple and have visited Venice before but never stayed so thought we would combine the cruise and stay. I think we will pay the extra to get the water taxi direct to the hotel. Thanking everyone again.
