daiB Posted March 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2017 How easy is it to get from Newhaven to Edinburgh, specifically the Royal Mile? Is it walkable? Not walkable but you are beside the Royal Yacht. In front of the shopping centre it is attached to there are busses direct to the centre of Edinburgh. These are very regular. Newhaven is not next to the Royal Yacht & Ocean Terminal shopping centre, that is Leith, approx. 15 minutes walk away. However, there are buses that leave from Newhaven and go into the city centre. https://lothianbuses.co.uk/getting-around/journey-planner
tartanexile81 Posted March 13, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2017 Hi LTC, I created a thread showing how to get from Newhaven to Edinburgh city centre. Once you've had a look at it, let me know if you've got any other questions and I'll try to help. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2231904&highlight=newhaven+harbour I think DaiB is mixed up about Newhaven and Leith because the Royal Yacht Britannia is at Leith, next to the Ocean Terminal shopping centre. cruisePAC Posted March 13, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2017 This is very helpful! I looked at the bus website - fare is 1.60 per person one-way, correct change needed.
durante Posted March 14, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 14, 2017 I really recommend using buses in Edinburgh. If you get a one day bus ticket £4 cash instead of paying £1.60 per journey, you can use the Lothian bus service as often as you like, which means you don't have to worry about having the exact coins for the £1.60 one way trip. There are a couple of bus services which go between Newhaven and central Edinburgh ie Princes Street, and from there you can walk up to the Royal Mile, which you mentioned as your destination. This is Lothian Buses website https://lothianbuses.co.uk You can create a personalised timetable if you put Lower Granton Road as your starting point and either Princes Street as your destination, or try George IV bridge as it is nearer to the Castle / Royal Mile. It also explains there how you can buy tickets including by mobile phone now
