Stockholm shore excursions

Recommended Posts

Looking for suggestions on shore excursions in Stockholm??? Thanks

In the morning we took the Hop On Hop Off boat to the Vasa ship museum to get there before the crowds. We almost had the place to ourselves. Then we walked around the waterfront back towards the ship for lunch and to get our tickets for the roof walk tour.

We did the roof walk tour in the afternoon. It is quite the adventure, and most unique. I highly recommend it if you can easily climb a short ladder. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g189852-d3617017-Reviews-Rooftop_Tour_Stockholm-Stockholm.html

We docked in town, which made this work. Some cruise ships dock at a remote location and you must take a bus to town.

We walked towards town to the local ferry service and caught a ferry that stops just 10 minutes from the Vasa. After that we strolled into town and explored the Old Town and the Nobel Museum ( fascinating short videos from winners of the prizes).

We had the ship's shore excursion to the Vasa Museum.

We shared a taxi with another Cruise Critic couple from the remote pier over to the Vasa - a wonderful museum. After 2 or 3 hours there, we took a short boat ride across the harbor to Gamla stan, the old town. Walked through the narrow streets and market, watched a massive changing of the guard and enjoyed a nice lunch. Then shared a taxi back to the ship.

Taxi/boat/taxi combination was much more convenient than using the HOHO which follows a defined route that, if I remember correctly, would have gotten to Gamla stan before the Vasa. Was also cheaper than the ship's tour and less structured.
