smoking on Splendor, Conquest and Magic

I'll start by saying I'm allergic to smoke. I went on Carnival Paradise and had a horrible time - the casino allows smoking and that entire floor plus the floor above are "bad" for me. I think it's because the casino doesn't have doors. The worst part was that all the "fun" stuff was on those floors and at the Casino bar so I really feel like we missed out.

My question: We're debating going on another Carnival cruise and have narrowed it down to Splendor, Conquest and Magic. Does anyone know what the "smoke" situation is on those ships? Any help would be appreciated.

Sandy

Unfortunately Carnival is one of the lines that still allows smoking in their casinos. Claims of non-smoking sections are ludicrous, as if the smoke knows not to venture over there.

We were on Magic last month and had a wonderful time and did enjoy the ship overall. There is a fair amount of outdoor smoking permitted which by and large is avoidable (unless you want to walk the entire way around the ship via The Lanai which allows smoking more or less down one entire side of the ship).

I have some allergies, but I dont think smoke is one, however I am definitely very sensitive to smoke, whether it be a by product of smokers, or other sources. As I am getting older, I find that the sensitivity is getting worse. I can only speak for my most recent cruise (Splendor, Sept 2016), being the worst ever for smoke in a Carnival casino. My previous cruises I noticed it, but endured it, and Victory in 2015, noticed my increased inability to deal with it, but last cruise on Splendor, I actually came down with a cough mid way through my cruise and not sure if it was a result of the smoke, or I picked up an upper respiratory infection somewhere else on the ship.

After that cruise, and coming home, it took me about 6 weeks to shake that cough. I love to play slots, especially when on a cruise, but last few cruises find that the only time I can really enjoy them is by going in early in the morning opening hours, and by mid afternoon, when it got crowded, I had to leave because of the smoke.

It really is too bad for me, and for others like me who are not able to tolerate smoke, but love to play in the casino, as it has caused me now to second guess my choice of cruise lines when I go on one next. I love Carnival otherwise, but I really need a cruiseline who provides me with a more comfortable environment.

I am considering MSC next, as well as Celebrity who have non smoking casinos. Celebrity is a bit more cost wise, but I will probably have to spring for it.

other than the smoke in the casino though, Spendor is a great ship, did not mean to put her down.

On the Conquest we could smell smoke from the casino sometimes as far back as the Alchemy bar .

Also a side note . On the Vista we originally had the Reflections dining room unfortunately that room stunk so bad of smoke from the casino above , we switched to the Horizon .

Cruzeluver - You've been on A LOT of cruises...do you have any suggestions on a cruiseline that might work for me? We're looking at a 5 day (ish) in the Caribbean. We live in Florida so any cruise out of any Florida port would work.

Yep. Celebrity. They allow absolutely no indoor smoking and outdoor smoking is restricted to just a couple of areas. Its quite wonderful. You are going to pay more than you would for a comparable five day cruise on Carnival, but in addition to the restrictive smoking policy you will have better food, more polished service and less noise. Plus with the perks promotions they run you may not really pay much more if you get paid gratuities, free internet, free beverage packages and/or shipboard credits. We like Carnival fine and will still sail with then when it makes sense to, but Celebrity really does a very nice job.

I am VERY sensitive to smoke. I'm a former smoker. With how much I detest it now, I wonder how I ever did it in the first place!

The smoke smell is something I'm concerned about as well on our upcoming Magic cruise. We aren't casino people, but I think we would enjoy many of things outside of the casino, so I worry that it'll be so smoke filled that we can't. Is the smell and smoke that bad right outside the casino on the Magic? I've heard mixed things, so I'm interested to see what smoke-sensitive people have to say about it.

We were on the Magic earlier this month. We noticed very heavy smoke around all areas of the Casino. Very unfortunate, because the Play it again Piano Bar and other open seating areas were heavily affected. Don't believe it when told the Ventillation system alleviated it!

The common theme to many of the posts, is the Casino....so if you are that sensitive to smoke, avoid that area....the ship is what, 95% smoke free. They have eliminated smoking in the rooms and eliminated it in MOST areas on board. Its not a bad compromise. To the people that say "eliminate it totally" are being self entitled and unreasonable....For the record, i am a non smoker

Which side is the "smoking" side?

Makes me sad that you experienced this on Paradise. I sailed on her when she was totally non-smoking, and it truly was paradise.

Me too and it was WONDERFUL! They actually put someone off the ship in San Juan because they got caught smoking. Why would you book a non-smoking cruise and smoke?

Most of the "major" lines (NCL, HAL, RCCL, CCL, Princess) all allow smoking in the casinos. About the only major cruise line that has banned it indoors was Celebrity

At least two HAL ships do not permit smoking in the casino. Times are changing.
