Sailway vs Dinner?

We are booked on Traditional dining (17:30) next week on the Allure. Sailaway is supposed to be 16:30 but for at least the last couple of weeks as we've been watching on webcam the ship hasn't left till an hour and sometimes much more later. Would it be considered bad etiquette to be late to dinner? It's the family's first ever cruise (not ours) and we really want them to experience it but don't want to be rude either.... don't really want to do Windjammer on the first night.

If you are going to be more than 15-20 minutes late then I would make other arrangements for dinner that night. If you are seated at a table with others I would let your waiter know in advance that you will be late so as to not hold up the others at your table.

You could always book a speciality restaurant the first night.

I would say anything over fifteen minutes late would be rude.

That's another reason we always book mtd

We are a table of 9 so wouldn't be holding anyone else up.... just thinking so long as we leave the table before our 2 hour 'slot' is up we may be fine. No worries. As it is more than 2 hours late already today we would no way make sailaway.
