Hello again-I need help bidding in Fort Lauderdale- Other than the airport zone- which area would be best for a pre-cruise stay-the "downtown" zone which would include the Marriott Marina- or the "beach" zone that includes the Hyatt Pier 66? Am trying to avoid an expensive cab ride as our flight doesn't arrive until 11:30pm. Thank you!

We won the Renaissance, had bid a 3* in downtown and they upgraded us to the 4* for last April. I start bidding for our April trip this year. I started at a 4* for downtown, then when rejected add the 3* and then when rejected added Pompano Beach because they only have 2* and have started at $55 and gone through $75 so far and have been rejected. Will keep on trying but we have a backup at the Extended Stay - $94.99 a night on their web site or have also found the Amerisuites for $109 on Valuetrips.com.

We really like the area that the hotels are in on SE 17th. Grocery, liquor, drug stores within walking distance as well as restaurants and the water taxi stop and TrentS who lives in the area strongly supports them too.

If you want the Hyatt Pier 66 it's 4-star... Be careful with the "Beach" zone as the 3-star that many have gotten lately is an old Holiday Inn at the north end of Fort Lauderdale beach, a bit of a pricey cab ride from the airport and port.

"Downtown" is the SE 17th Street area, closest to the airport and port.

Since you're coming in so late I guess you're not going to be doing much but going to bed, so in your case "Airport" zone would be okay, but anyone coming in earlier should probably avoid that zone as in many cases that's the airport Wyndham and there's nothing to walk to from there so you would need cabs for everything.

You didn't say when you're coming, but it's been quite difficult for many to get anything on Priceline this winter/spring, and prices are up considerably over past years. If you don't hit something right away you would be well advised to book a backup you can live with.

These are all "budget" hotels less than 10 minutes from FLL and just outside the entrance to Port Everglades. The first two being the nicer of the three...

Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center"... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc

Extended Stay America... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html

AmeriSuites... http://amerisuites.com/reservations/locationdetail.asp?facid=3929

AmeriSuites is cheaper on Valuetrips... http://www.valuetrips.com/AMS/FL/F17.htm

If you can fly in a day ahead this is a very nice resort to try for, since you are arriving so late, the pool and beach isn't much good for you, but thought I would just post this info for anyone else interested in a place to stay in Ft.Lauderdale.

Try bidding in the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Area only.......You are pretty sure of getting Marriott Harbor Beach Resort, because it is the only resort in that area. It's a beautiful hotel with a beautiful pool and it's beach is right on the Atlantic Ocean. You can see the ships from your balcony, be sure to ask for a pool/ocean view room also.

Just select the 1 area Ft. Lauderdale Beach Area and when you get to the star section just select RESORTS only, no stars.

A bid from $75 to $100 should get it depending on the time of year you are going. If you shouldn't happen to get it on the first try, wait a few days and try again with a higher bid.

Here is a link to the resort.

Good Luck
