NoWhiners Posted April 27, 2017 #26 Share Posted April 27, 2017 Mackay got through Debbie reasonably well, not as bad as many places. ANZAC day is pretty special here, for a while it seemed to becoming just another holiday, but the Spirit has risen I'm glad to say. As an aside the Swans are now Five for none. Yay--a perfect record!! Go Swans. I was hoping our leaving the country would bring them better luck :D Glad to hear from everyone that Mackay got thru Debbie OK. I hope Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays are coming along. The outlook seemed somewhat grim for them when we were there. ML
d66d66 Posted April 27, 2017 #27 Share Posted April 27, 2017 Hello, My husband and I stayed a couple of days in the Gallipoli area in May of 2012 and spent an entire day with a private guide walking around the battlefield. It was incredibly moving for us to see Sulvla Bay and Anzac Cove from atop Chunuk Bair and imagine what it looked like so long ago. We also walked to Walker's Ridge Cemetery and read the inscriptions on the tombstones. We went to the Turkish cemetery as well, and the whole day was a memorable experience. Our Turkish guide kept trying to puzzle out why we were there. He kept thinking we were Australians. The one thing that my husband and I both discussed after that amazing day was that we had the same song going through our heads the entire time. I have a link to it here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA961ER34Co.
