LSKC Posted April 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2017 We are booked on 7 day eastern Escape out of Miami. I have been entertaining the option though of switching to a 2-wk cruise out of NY (saves us flights) in Feb '18 but it means that we'd be on the Breakaway instead. Other than it is a bit older (does it show the age?)... is there much of a difference in the ships. All my research thus far has been on Escape. I know they are similar but if anyone can point out noticeable differences, I'd appreciate it. I'd love to stick with the Escape but with saving on flights, the 2 wk Southern on the Breakaway really isn't a ton more money (we are a family of 5 so flights to Miami from Toronto seem to be about $2400CAD right now - BOO!) Two Wheels Only Posted April 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2017 Standard balconies (side of ship) are smaller on BA/GA. Aft-facing balconies are (for the most part) larger on BA/GA. There are a few differences in restaurants between the 2. The Haven on Escape is larger/nicer than Breakaway but they both have a retractable roof. There are a few other differences such as the cantilevered hot tubs on Escape that Breakaway doesn't have.
umbrino Posted April 28, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2017 I did both, breakaway in April and it was freezing for the first days down. Stick with escape! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
supertoit Posted April 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2017 I did Breakaway, Geataway and Escape and I liked Breakaway and Getaway better than Escape. They have a disco and noodle bar next to the casino that is missing on Escape. BTW I am from TO too...check flights from Buffalo. You loose about a day or two at the start and end of your cruise out of NYC because of the cold and wind combo on the top decks.
bluesea777 Posted April 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2017 Two weeks on BA from NYC, hands down! More ports of call, and great sail away from NYC. If you are a sushi lover, the sushi bar on BA is soooo good - the best one we have had on NCL ship.

Only tristate people cruise out of NYC in winter. If you're looking for convenience, then NYC is it. If you're looking for a great cruise, go south, Out if NY, you have a day or two each way where it's too cold to go outside. You can stay inside at home. The Escape is basically the new improved Breakaway. District Brew House and Food Republic, Wine cellar. All should not be missed. As previously posted, the standard balconies are about back to normal on the Escape (Breakaway balconies are you can't turn the chairs toward the water). No contest on the better ship. The rest is up to you.
