veryseasonedtraveler Posted May 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2017 We will be sailing on the Veendam to Montreal. Wondering what would happen if we went today?
Louise sail Posted May 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2017 You will probably dock on the eastern part of Montreal and have a slightly steeper slope to leave the ship otherwise you will have no problems. The water levels are too high for the ship to get under a bridge to get to central Montreal and we are told this situation will continue until the end of June. The flooding is mainly in the western part of the island where I live.We are not directly affected but many people have been working for over two weeks to keep the water out of their homes. It is a sad situation with many flooded homes. CGinMTL Posted May 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2017 We were in old montreal on Sunday and talked to a couple coming off the veendam. They docked as planned. The waters are now peaked. So everything should be fine Sent from my SM-T580 using Forums mobile app
veryseasonedtraveler Posted May 9, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted May 9, 2017 Thanks. Glad you're OK Louise. Not an easy time for residents.
Rare 1of4 Posted May 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2017 It will take weeks for the flood waters to recede but glad to hear the Veendam could use the permanent dock. Waters expected to peak around Lake Ontario today or Wednesday and that water flows into the St. Lawrence.
Louise sail Posted May 9, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2017 We are worried about the St. Lawrence seaway dam at Cornwall when they open it we will get the excess from Lake Ontario and the other Great Lakes. They say the water is building up and they will soon have to release it,they have been holding back due to our flood situation.
