Nieuw Amsterdam casino / poker

In my experience the busyness of the casino depends on where you are cruising. On our Asia trip the casino was empty all the time. It was a very port intensive cruise. On the other hand the casino on the NA last Thanksgiving to the Caribbean was packed. It was hard to get a seat at the three card poker table. We had a great time.

What's the rake on those poker games? That's where they make the money.

For the tournaments they only keep $5 pp. The rest is paid out to top 2 or sometimes top 3 if 10 are playing. I do not play the $1/$2 so I do not know for those games

Update from the final Alaskan Cruise of the year:

The twice daily sea day tournament didn’t run once. Rarely did more than a single person register for it.

The cash game didn’t run once; most table games were extremely sparsely populated throughout.

Not a good cruise for poker.
