kellig Posted May 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2017 Has anyone ever rented a scooter in Moorea or Bora Bora? We are considering that as an option to tour one of those islands (most likely Moorea). We have never ridden one before and thought it would be fun. Have you seen many scooters on the roads? How's road traffic? Thanks for any advice or thoughts about this.

Can be heavy traffic at times and in some areas there is not a soft shoulder, just a rain gutter for runoff. Though some will say no big deal I'll just say there isn't a trip to French Polynesia that we haven't heard about a terrible accident to a tourist. Islands like Huahine, Raiatea, Rangiroa, Fakarava, Aitutaki are far better/safer for scooters.
Cruisedreamer1 Posted May 15, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2017 We rented bicycles on both islands. We found Bora Bora to be safer for bike riding. There were only 2 spots where I walked it: a hill too steep for me and where there was too much gravel due to construction. We went at our own speed stopping at Bloody Mary's and at a hotel where they let us view an over the water bungalow. Moorea had too much traffic for us and we turned around and returned the bicycles. kellig Posted May 21, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted May 21, 2017 Thanks for the advice. We decided to do a car rental instead for safety reasons.
