If you've waited until sail date to get a cabin assignment...

has there been a luggage problem? Do you just write the number on the tag with Sharpie or something at the pier? I will admit, that I am always the lucky member of my party whose luggage gets lost/misplaced/delayed. And yet, I hate lugging it around with me if I can help it. My sail date is less than a week away, so I am just planning on not getting the assignment until I get to the pier.

The porters have blank luggage tags and will fill them out for you if you are not assigned a specific room prior to arriving at the pier.

We didn't get Cabin number till we arrived at the pier once.

We the had porter write cabin number on blank tags they had.

No problems at all.

We were upgraded at the desk once, after our luggage had been taken, at the curb. It never arrived in our new stateroom. I finally went to the concierge desk, and found it there with some other lost luggage. I should have gone to the original cabin number, and checked! No big deal. I'm never going to complain about being upgraded LOL! If I'm ever lucky enough to have it happen again, I'll just check the hallway of the original cabin if my luggage doesn't appear.

The same for us, regardless of when we get our cabin assignment.

Either a porter writes the cabin number and attaches the tags for us, or we pick up some tags at the pier and do it ourselves.

Never had a problem.

Thanks for the reassurances. TA called Celebrity, and it is unlikely there will be an assignment before online check-in closes. So, we're going in blind, as some might say.
