Navigator of the Seas questions

hey everyone I am in the process of booking my first cruise, so far I am looking at the navigator of the seas. I am sailing with friends who have cruised before, so they have coupons to use.

So, should we sail on September 30th 2006 and use the coupons?

or October 14th 2006?

Which is a better cabin, balcony or promenade room?

I kinda like the idea of a balcony, but is it really worth the extra bucks?

I plan on doing lots of tours, hitting the beach and getting some shopping done on this cruise. So I am going to be out of the cabin pretty early, plus, I don't want to stay in the room and relax on the balcony, I would much prefer being at the pool and meeting new people. At night we will be at dinner, and then at the shows and then maybe the bars/club so when will we I really get use of the balcony?

My friends are pushing for a balcony cabin, I just can't see why...since it appears as if we will hardly be in our room :) I would love to hear from experienced cruisers and get any and all info about the Navigator of the seas.

I can only say for myself it's not worth the extra money to get a balcony... we spend so little time in our room, and would rather spend that money in other ways. Lots of people would disagree... I always go for the inside cabin with the better location... mid-ship on one of the higher levels.

I have only been on one cruise where I was not in a balcony room- and I will never do that again. I so love the balcony rooms. I think it is so worth the extra money. We have breakfast delivered to our room every morning and go out on the balcony to enjoy it. It is nice to go out there at night with a cocktail and watch the waves in the moonlight and relax before going to bed. I also love to go out there as we are pulling into or out of ports. I have gotten some great pictures from our balcony. This is only my opinion but I would highly suggest it to you. Plus, when we look across the hall when the maids are in the inside cabin rooms- they are so much smaller and my luggage would not even fit in there. The balcony cabins are big enough to have a queen size bed and a couch. I could only get an inside cabin on one of the cruises we wanted to go on- so we opted not to go on that cruise at all and chose the January cruise instead of a Christmas one.

I have been on the Navigator and I would really suggest the balcony rooms aboard that ship. She is a great cruise and you will have a wonderful time regardless of cabin. Tiff

thanks , you described some really nice things to do on the balcony, but I don't think we will be in the room that long to enjoy all that!!! This will be my first cruise I want to do it all!!!!

Room service might be cool once, but I would prefer the buffet as I am kinda picky. I have stayed at AI hotels and always liked going to the buffet for variety.

Cocktails on the balcony at night sounds super, but that when would we have time to slip that in after touring, getting dressed for dinner, shows, and hanging out at the clubs/bars? And by the time we get back to the room, I would be fast alseep. I need to get lots of rest to do more touring the next day :)

Plus, we are looking at a promenade room, not a regular inside, and those rooms from what I understand have a window overlooking the promenade so you can people watch!! I have seen pics of the promenade, and all I can say is wow!!!

I am thinking that a balcony would be really nice to have on an Alaskan cruise though.

First let me tell you your choice of the NOS is great. We sailed the NOS in april this year and it was so great that we are doing the New years eve cruise with friends on the NOS again. When we sailed in April we had a balcony for ourselves and a promenade view room for our teenage kids. One of the other posters gave most of the good reasons for the balcony. My favourite to add to that is when you get back to your cabin late at night you leave the door open to hear the wonderfull ocean as you fall asleep. The promenade room has a bay window looking onto the promenade. If you choose promenade room make sure and have those curtains pulled when you are changing if not you would be putting on quite a public show;) . What ever room you choose you wont be dissapointed with the NOS.

goneclear, was NOS your first cruise?

What did you love about the ship?

Will you book Freedom of the Seas in the future?

Hi Beach-babe, No NOS was not our first cruise however it was our first cruise on the voyager class ships. We loved everything about the ship. During the day on pool deck you can find a quiet place or be at the pool with all the activities. On an evening we would dress early for dinner and then bar hop around the ship. We would sit outside the two poets pub have drinks and people watch. After dinner we would walk on deck or go out on the bow and feel the awsome sea breeze. we would then go to casino and a show or the dungeon night club. There is just so much to do. Alot of people speak bad about the food, we did not have one meal to complain about. The service from everyone was way above what I expect. And last, yes I would sail the FOS but not just because of the surf machine that is widely advertised. It is a new ship, has the concept of the voyager class ships with promenade etc. The promenade is like walking down a street in europe with cafe shops bars etc. If you have any more specific questions on the NOS feel free to ask me.

The balcony is great if you are going to use it. We had it on the NOS this past July and loved it. I especially liked waking up and seeing us come into port. It was more relaxing and it was nice to just sit and watch the islands come into view while waiting for my time in the shower!

I can see though why you would want the promenade room. If you are not going to use the balcony, why waste the money? Especially when there is so much more that you can spend it on.

Get the Promenade room for this cruise and then in the future, when you are ready, go for the balcony.

The NOS is a beautiful ship. It's hard because now I do not think that we could cruise on an older ship. There is the FOS, but with the whole wave pool hype, I am not ready for the huge crowds, yet. We are going to give it a couple of years and then bring the kids next time.

Hi...I just posted some pix of NOS on webshots...the link is in my signature below......

the inside cabins are SMALL!

We have had Jr Suites so we are spoiled...but we spend a lot of time in the cabin. since you sound like you will just sleep and shower there, the promenade view should be OK...just shut the curtain!!!!

the ship is beautiful.......you will have a great time! i also did a review, you can search for it on the rccl board. We sailed Oct 15, 2005.

Let me know if you have more ???s. you can post them here.

Two weeks (Sept 30 vs Oct 14) is not going to make any difference. If Sept 30 means you can save some money (use the coupons) then do it.

If you are not going to spend time on the balcony, don't pay for it. Balconies are good for watching the world go by - if you like to do that. The promenade cabins (inside cabins with a window) are good for people watching - if you like to to that.
