Getaway Baltic Capitals cruise - 16 to 25 May

Recommended Posts

Thank you for all of the information! Did you happen to notice if there was ever an option to buy a one-day pass to the thermal spa? I have only seen passes that cover the whole trip. Thank you!

NCL only very rarely sell one day passes if it is significantly undersubscribed, on any ship. It didn't happen, to my knowledge, on the Getaway. On sea days it was at full capacity.

Thanks for the dailies, they are really helpful. I just made changes to my dining reservations based on the casino opening hours.

Another question, I don't seem to find the laundry service special, was it an page insert, or part of the dailies? Thanks.

We received a card on our bed Sat.night to fill the laundry bag for 19.95. The dirty laundry had to be placed on the bed by Sunday noon. The card said we would receive our clean laundry by Tuesday night, but the clean laundry was waiting for us when we came back from our SPB tour on Sunday evening.

I was able to buy thermal spa day passes on port days only, $59 each (May 25th sailing). Hope this helps.

I was on the same trip and have now posted my review. Yours is wonderful reading from a different perspective. Thanks for taking the time to do this (and include pictures)!

Hi, where can I find your review?

Thanks for the transportation info. Was there much of a wait to get into the Vasa and was it easy to find your way around the the city?

I came back from the cruise a few days ago and had a wonderful time, even though I was part of the cruise who had weather issue in Warnemunde and didn't get to go to Tallin. Everyone was extremely disappointed and I think NCL could have handled the issue a little better!

Regarding Stockholm, I took the train from Nynashamn to Stockholm. It was extremely easy: bought the ticket at the TI office at the end of the dock and just followed the line to the train station. Nynashamn is the end of the line, so you can't go in the wrong directions: just board the first train and go to Stockholm central. I was a little confused getting out of the station, but I eventually found which way to go to the old town. From there, everything was very easy to navigate. We walked around the old town, visited the armory museum: it is a very nice museum and it was FREE!

Then we took the ferry to go to the Vasa museum. We got there around 12.30 and there were like 5 people ahead of us waiting in line. I was shocked to see no wait!!!

Then we walked back to the train station, it was a lovely walk! (maybe 30-40min)

The train back to Nynashamn was PACKED!!! half the cruise ship was on that train! If you would like to sit on the ride back, I suggest to try catching one of the earlier trains.

We disembarked at 7.30am, right after the announcement had been made. we were not supposed to dock until 8am, so many people were not ready to disembark yet. There was no line anywhere. however, i heard from people who disembarked later that there was quite a line at the TI office. Know that you can also buy your train ticket at the train station.

A few other useful info:

I was able to use my credit card or euros everywhere.

The only issue was in Copenhagen where the machine at the train station would not accept my American VISA, fortunately, i also have a European VISA, and this one worked.

The bus 27 at Ocean Pier did not accept foreign currency. The lady gave me a free ride! if you plan on catching the 27 from the pier, make sure you either have DKK or purchase your ticket BEFORE the cruise. I have heard that the 25 accepts foreign currency, however, it doesn't start until 8am.

At the Copenhagen train station it's correct that the ticket machine did not accept our American Visa credit card, however, if you go into the ticket office it is easily done by their ticket clerk. You might have to wait in line for 15 minutes or so.

There is no ticket office at Osterport!

is an 'airport transfer only' available to book onboard for the end of the cruise? as online it the 'tours that end at the airport' only...

Yes, you can book the airport transfer on the ship.

It's separate to the tours that end at the airport.

You can also book it in advance by e-mailing/ringing NCL if you want, although I don't think there is any need to do so.

Huntingdon1701, your review is so helpful, thank you so much! In SPB, it looks like you took the Faberge tour with Alla. Why did you choose that over the Grand Tour? We too want to see Faberge but the Alla tour that includes Faberge apparently does not go inside St. Isaac's Cathedral and skips the hydrofoil ride. Would love to get your input. Thanks!

Glad it's helpful!

I chose that because I have always associated Faberge with Russia and wanted to see that, and it's not something available anywhere else in the world - there were a number of other churches on the itinerary, including in the other countries, and after a while they all felt much the same from the inside - only the Spilled Blood is very different from the outside as well.

In actual fact, they changed the itinerary a bit so we DID go to St Isaac's and skipped the Church of St Peter and Paul in the Fortress instead - although we got a very good look at the outside from the boat trip we did on day 2 (and again, that is the more distinctive part of it apparently).

We didn't do the hydrofoil ride, but our own boat ride was still brilliant. I did read elsewhere on the forum that the hydrofoil is no longer available on any tour because they have changed the route and it now takes too long - but you should confirm that with Alla as things sometimes change.

We had a skip the line access to the Faberge Museum and it was incredibly interesting - from the history and stories associated with the objects, not just looking at jewelry.

I had some friends who did the Grand Tour and they felt it was amazing, as we did the Faberge Tour.

Hope that helps, but i'm sure you'll have a fantastic time whichever one you pick.

We just got back this past Sunday, and your review helped me out a lot with my research.

A few notes:

- We took the Hydrofoil ride to finish off the day in SPB, so it is still running. Note - we went with DenRus.

- I printed out your Dailies, and they were a great help in my planning. Quick note that there are differences between the first run and ours. There were a few time changes to some of the events, and some of the performers were also different. The muster drill for those arriving in Germany was also different. But the changes were minimal.

Thanks again - and I have also begun my own review of this voyage (see signature for link).
