FSUNole Posted June 4, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Looking at the Oct 15, 2018 5 day sailing to Key West and Havana on Empress. There is a full sea day between Key West and Havana. I think they could just drift and the ship would get there in that time frame. Any chance they change the itinerary to get to Havana earlier and do an overnight? Perhaps there's a reason they can't commit this far in advance? Just grasping for straws...
leaveitallbehind Posted June 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Often when the ports of call are close together and they have a full sea day in between it is based on set scheduled dock times between the two, and the short travel distance is offset by a slow, roundabout route to get from one to the other. Typically when an itinerary is published and open for booking, the itinerary is set and would not be changed.

Maybe they will do a few laps around Cuba so we can see it from the ship :)
leaveitallbehind Posted June 4, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Maybe they will do a few laps around Cuba so we can see it from the ship :) Well it looks like you are on an Eastern Caribbean itinerary with Freedom, which will have you passing very close to the northern coast of Cuba as you return to Ft. Lauderdale from Labadee. Should be able to see a good bit of it then.
gatour Posted June 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2017 Yes there is a good chance that they will just drift. There are other itineraries if you look at the distances between ports, they could easily make it in a few hours. So instead of burning fuel going around in circles or paying for extra dockage fees when they arrive at 2am they will just drift.
