AWL3 Posted June 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2017 Going in October! Want to know what would be best one for families ? Maho Beach at the airport- very cool. Look it up on youtube. The taxis are a flat rate to and from. The more people that go, the cheaper it is. Restaurant with wifi, flight schedules, bathrooms, etc.
luv2trvlnow Posted June 7, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 7, 2017 Maho Beach at the airport- very cool. Look it up on youtube. The taxis are a flat rate to and from. The more people that go, the cheaper it is. Restaurant with wifi, flight schedules, bathrooms, etc. I think they were asking for the best beach club on Orient Beach for families. Your answer won't help since Maho Beach is a completely different beach in the opposite direction from Orient Beach. I can't help answer the OP's question since I don't have any children. But I can tell you that the beach clubs are lined up one after the other with an occasional opening. Maybe you are asking which ones are located further from the clothing optional beach. If so, you will want to go to the clubs that are to the left when looking at the water. Walk along and see which one looks good to you and if you like the price. Rare Hlitner Posted June 7, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2017 Orient Beach is a very competitive place with more then a dozen places renting loungers....and plenty of cafes/restaurants. We have never found a "favorite" spot since things are always changing when it comes to pricing and the quality of loungers/umbrellas. So we think its just a matter of using one's instincts once you arrive at the beach. Take a few minutes and ask for the pricing (which might include a free drink) of several different vendors. With kids you can try and negotiate a lower price..since you would want more loungers. Also look carefully at the quality of the beach loungers (we prefer ones with nice thick mattresses) as there are many different types. Also ask about he nearest rest rooms :). As to the nude resort, it is on the far right (looking out towards the sea) of the beach...hidden behind some large rocks. The reality is that those folks generally mind their own business and are out of sight. Sometimes, you might get a topless bather who walks along the beach...but this seems to be more of a rarity in recent years. They do have a sign at the rocks telling the nudists that there is no nudity beyond that point (not everyone listens). But lets talk about the "families" issue. Orient Bay is usually great for swimming, but its not the best water for really small children (especially if they do not know how to swim). If the family includes some very young ones.....you might want to consider Le Galion Beach which has waters which are sheltered (by a reef) and has a very easy entry/exit (its not steep). Not sure why somebody mentioned Maho...which is not our idea of a decent beach for families. Maho's claim to fame is its location at the end of the runway and a very decent beach bar/restaurant. But as an actual beach....it sucks! Hank
attran99 Posted June 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2017 Our driver dropped us off on the northern section of Orient Beach...north of the clothing optional club. We spent a few hours at Le String Beach Club. All the clubs offer the same pricing for $10, you get a chair, umbrella, free WiFi, and a drink at the bar. Service was great and the beach was just lovely...the water was slightly cooler but that's because it's the Atlantic Ocean and not the Caribbean Sea. snakedoc Posted July 9, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2017 We have been twice to Le Galion Beach. As a previous poster mentioned it is sheltered by a reef. People have mentioned that there is no taxi stand for the return ride so if taking a cab you would need to arrange pickup. We have rented a vehicle twice to go to the beach so this has not been as issue. As a note of safety We were there is 2012 and 2016 both times the 15-20 Gendarmes (French police) were there for a morning workout of beach volleyball and Rugby. Thank you for the valuable information. A breakfast picnic at LeGalion has been added to my list of "must do's" for my next island vacation! :'):halo: Regarding Orient. Take note if the price is in $ or e as the cost of a day at the beach with a family can add up quickly. I haven't been for a couple of years but the end nearest to the c/o section was offering $ and e at the same rate and was definitely the less expensive end of the beach in general.
