If you are leaving the group at any point in the tour be sure to let your guide know that you are leaving so that the group won't waste time waiting for you or looking for you.

Yes

On our Silversea cruise we had the misfortune to be on the same bus as the same two morons twice. Both times they went off on their own without telling the guide. Waited half an hour once and 20 minutes the 2nd time as the guides freaked out looking for them. The 1st time they went to a restaurant and were eating lunch after the guide explicitly told us "No time for lunch as we must leave at X to make it back to the ship for lunch".

Don't be THOSE GUYS.

Guessing many of us have met these same "morons" somewhere in our travels. The worst part is, they never seem the least bit apologetic and act like it was no big deal that they held up an entire group! :(

If you need to eat at regular intervals and there is no food stop on the itinerary, then you should come prepared with your own snacks. If nothing else, grab some hard-boiled eggs from the breakfast buffet.

In my dreams: Stop holding the rest of the bus hostage. Guides give a phone number to everyone on the bus (for the head office and not the guide) and then announce that the bus will not wait for more than five minutes for anyone who is late and has not called the phone number to say that they have been unavoidably detained or are lost beyond recognition. The head office can then assess the situation and decide whether the guide should wait or whether the morons will have to take a cab to get back to the ship.
