Point Loma Cruiser Posted June 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2017 We are booked on 8/17 British Isles cruise and looking at excursions. Ship's excursions seem expensive and we're not sure we want to be on big non-airconditioned buses. Any suggestions for local guides, tour companies in various ports. There are three couples traveling together and so we would be splitting costs three ways (unless fees are pp of course.) Thanks for any suggestions. CruiserBruce Posted June 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2017 If you look on the British Isles board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=233 you will lots of info. Don't be surprised if the Mods move it there, as it doesn't have to do with Princess.

Blondilu Posted June 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 20, 2017 We did the British Isles in 2015. The only private tour we took was in Invergorden with a company called WOW Scotland. It was an excellent tour. Not necessarily any less expensive, though, since it was only the 2 of us. With 6 of you I'm sure it would easily rival the cruise line cost and we were able to drive down little back roads where the big buses couldn't go. For us, even with the higher price it was worth every penny. Or should I say pence? One more thing regarding the "non-air conditioned" buses: if that were your only reason to not go on a ship's tour I wouldn't worry too much. The weather was never warm enough once we got further north to Ireland and Scotland to need air-conditioning. At least not when we were there which was early August. ohhbother Posted June 20, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Here's my trip report from our British Isles cruise. Still the best vacation we've ever taken. We did a significant number of private tours/self guided -- some fairly adventurous. Orkney Islands and Loch Ness were highlights of our independent planning efforts. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1851903
