travelgirl45 Posted June 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2017 Checking to see if anyone has returned from the Crown Princess Cruise 7 Day Cruise Scandinavia leaving from Southampton and rt. Southampton. Wondering what type of transportation from the Port - Zeebrugge to Bruges. Apparently, there is not much in Zeebrugge. Does Princess provide buses to Bruges, like in other ports they have provided transportation from the port into the city. (not a part of the excursions.) If not, what transportation might be available.?? Any ideas would be helpful
umuva Posted June 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2017 Princess provides a bus. There is a charge. $10 rt I believe. Short walk to train station where for about 5 euros rt train to Bruges. Train takes less than 20 minutes each way. Sent from my iPad using Forums

sandy999 Posted June 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2017 I am on a Roll Call for my upcoming cruise. Taxi to Bruges is 100 euro return. We are sharing with 3 other couples making that 25 euros each. All organised via the roll call...
olvrxyzh Posted June 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Anticipate a long walk from the bus to the city square . . . buses are required to park about a mile away. The round trip taxi ride for $100 includes the tip and the driver will drop you off in the city square.
umuva Posted June 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2017 The Princess bus takes you to Zerbrugge. Then the train to Bruges. Station across the street from entrance. Great walk in with lots to see. Plenty of side streets to explore and avoid the masses at City Square. Sent from my iPad using Forums
aquilegia Posted June 27, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Is it actually one of the Zeebrugge stations that the bus takes you to? I thought services were very limited from those. The train station some cruise lines do a free shuttle to is Blankenberge, a coastal town about 15 minutes away.

travelgirl45 Posted June 27, 2017 Author #9 Share Posted June 27, 2017 Does the train stop right in town at Bruges? Thanks for the great information. Amd I assume the trains are dependable so we don't risk the chance of missing the Ship.

aquilegia Posted June 27, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 27, 2017 If you don't want to walk, there are local buses outside Bruges station that go the centre.
BarbinMich Posted June 28, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 28, 2017 . . . Wondering what type of transportation from the Port - Zeebrugge to Bruges. Apparently, there is not much in Zeebrugge. . . . While it's true there isn't much for a tourist in Zeebrugge, there is access to the tram that runs up and down the length of Belgium's coast. Having been to Bruges some years ago, I've taken the tram (it's about 1/2 mi from port) from Zeebrugge to Blankenberge and from Z to Knokke during our last 2 stops at Z. Blankenberge has a historic old town behind its dike, while condo buildings, a huge casino, restaurants, and shops line the top of the dike. Beach is very wide white sand--nice to walk on. There is also an aquarium attraction at the south end of the dike. Knokke, on the other hand, is a much larger (and more prosperous) town. Large downtown area where main street is lined with expensive shops. Lot of single family homes away from the main st. Beach similar to that at Blankenberge. My bottom line: both towns are nice diversions and beat staying on the ship although I do enjoy watching the port traffic (ferries and container ships). The RT tram fare is a mere 6 euros RT. we3peas Posted June 29, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Hopefully they have their act together by now. We missed seeing Bruges because Princess screwed up immigration to Belgium with their power outage of their computer system. Let us all know how it works out. However, I understand that the trains only run once an hour to and from Bruges. You'll waste a lot of time if you're unlucky and just miss each train. The next best option is sharing a minivan taxi for 8 passengers. The cost is 50E each way split among the passengers. You can take the free red cruise terminal bus from the ship to the outside of the port entrance where the taxis are located. You'll be dropped off in the Market Square. Pick up times each way can be predetermined. Contact one of the taxi firms listed below after you have enough passengers to fill the taxi and make a reservation. Florry Posted June 29, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Hello, I have done this journey many times. There are regulations at the port of Zebrugges which mean that you are not permitted to walk out of the port from the ship. Most cruise companies lay on a bus to the port gate and another bus to Blankenberge. The bus is a 5 minute walk from the station, the trains are every hour and you can look the times up here: https://www.trainline.eu you will get a small discount on the cost of your ticket if you show your cruise card. The trains are clean and the journey is 15 mins, I believe you can also get the train to Brussels from this station. When you get to Bruges it's about a 10 minute walk across the park before you hit the edge of the town. I would recommend you take a boat trip to see some of the quaint buildings you might miss on foot. There are also horse and carriage rides. As an alternative you could spend an hour or two in Blankenberge, it has a Main Street with shops and you will see steps at the far end, if you go up these you come to the seafront with a long promenade, in the summer months the restaurants all have seating outside often offering seafood. There is also a small pier. I hope you have s lovely time. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
