A couple of suggestions: Read through the NCL Frequently Asked Question section on NCL.com. Lots of great information for new NCL cruisers. Secondly, read through this forum. Check out the review section here on Cruise Critic, TONS of great information already available, after you have done some reading come back and ask some specific questions about what you would like to know. You'll get better responses with more specific questions.

I've cruised on the Getaway and had a wonderful time. It's a very nice ship. Some shows require reservations. My advice is to book what you can online and the rest shortly after boarding the ship. You will be able to book some shows when you log into your NCL and it's within a certain number of days before your cruise. Other shows, such as the comedy shows, can only be booked after you board the ship (unless that has changed since my cruise back in 2014).

For us, the main difference between Princess and NCL was the dining / dress code experience. NCL has all the time "any time dining" so you don't have a set dinner time or a set table. You show up when you like and are seated at a table for just your party, just like on land. We love that distinction but others miss the set dining times and more formal atmosphere on "formal nights" (NCL doesn't have an enforced "dressy" night at all .... leave the sport coats, tuxes, and panty hose at home).
