jagger16 Posted July 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Does anyone have a recommendation for a car rental company that will deliver the car to the Rhodes port? We have used Eurocosmos in the past but they are no longer in business. Thank you.
anthonyy7 Posted July 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2017 We used galaxy car rental in May. We met the agent outside port gate and car was parked on street. We left it in a dirt lot with other rentals next to the ship with keys under the mat. Cost was 40 euros and car was in good condition [emoji106]. Sorry to hijack the thread...we are avid motorcycle riders looking for which island to ride. Thx
anthonyy7 Posted July 12, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2017 I wouldn't recommend scooters to Lindos because of the highway and speeds of the cars. I don't recall any ATV or scooters on that route. If you could get a motorcycle that would be best and a great ride esp if you cut across mtns in center of island toward ancient kameiros. pompeii Posted July 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Anthony, is there plenty of time to rent a car and drive to Lindos, then also look around Rhodes old town? We'll be there in November from 8-5. We were planning to just walk around Rhodes, but we would really like to see Lindos as well. Did you find it easy to drive there? buchhalm Posted July 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2017 There are agencies directly outside the port when you get off the ship. Rented from them 3 times without problem or pre booking. Last time was 10 days ago. Paid 50 euro for small manual VW. Unlimited km, of course. Automatic cats ate SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive.
buchhalm Posted July 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Ps. Name of the car place is Charlamantis Travel (or something along these lines). You can't miss it

We were in Port 8a-7p (Princess). We picked up our car right outside the port gate (prebooked with Galaxy, 40 euros). We first drove along the north coast to ancient kamiros and spent a good 90 min there. We cut across through the mtns to the south for Lindos. We spent a good 2.5 hrs there and had lunch as well. It's best to find a place with a rooftop. Afterward we headed back to Rhodes port to drop off the car and spent the last few hrs exploring old town. There was plenty of time and we never felt rushed. We stopped at pottery factories/stores (plenty of them along the roads). Of all the islands we visited, Rhodes was the easiest to drive.

Since we're there two hours less than you were, if we skip Kamiros our timing should be about the same as yours so we should have plenty of time. anthonyy7 Posted July 23, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 23, 2017 8-5 is plenty of time. Be ready to walk off when the ship docks and prebook your car so it's ready to go. Drive down to Lindos and hike up to the acropolis before the tours then leisurely stroll back through the town. Head back to Rhodes port and drop off the car. There was a dirt lot we left ours in with keys next to the ship. It appeared to be the method most used. Leaving the ship, the TI officials were giving out nice detailed maps which will come in handy.
jagger16 Posted July 27, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Thank you all for the information. Good to know that there are some options outside of the port. We had no luck with Rodos Cars or Galaxy returning emails. But we did finally confirm a rental with Rodos Cars through Facebook. Just an FYI to anyone who may be trying to make contact with them.
