parentsof5 Posted July 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2017 We will be flying into Seattle with 2 full days before taking the train to Vancouver before departure. Is there an area that is best for getting to the train station? Do hotels offer shuttles like they do for the airport? We will most likely be doing the downtown area sites. Although still planning for all that, with possible rental car. Thoughts appreciated.
CruiserBruce Posted July 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2017 Come over to the West Coast Departures board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=413 where both Seattle and Vancouver are covered, as they are not in Alaska. I would stay downtown, but downtown gets expensive during the cruise season. People stay at the airport to save a few bucks, and use light rail, or perhaps Uber. Others stay in the Lake Union area. Beachiekeen Posted July 19, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2017 We stayed at the Maxwell in Queen Anne. We took a Lyft to the train station to take the train to Vancouver.
smrtypnts Posted July 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2017 If you stay anywhere in the downtown area it's easier to NOT have a rental car. We used Uber a lot and stayed in the Queen Ann district. We stayed an entire week so we did an airbnb, which I realize is probably not optimum for you.
parentsof5 Posted July 20, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted July 20, 2017 Thanks, everyone. Yes, I do realize neither Seattle or Vancouver are in Alaska. ;p That said, I didn't think about looking in homeports forum, so I do appreciate the pointer. I'm just so focused on Alaska! :D I'm really not sure what all we will try to do. If my husband could have the ultimate, he would be hiking on a mountain. Just not enough time, I'm afraid. I will definitely look at the suggestions.
1964IceCreamLady Posted July 21, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2017 I second the AirBnB recommendation! We ( as parentsof 3) are doing the reverse: taking train from Vancouver and spending a couple of days post-cruise in Seattle. Was WAY cheaper doing it this way because we used points to fly for "free" on Southwest.
