Baggage weight

Anything between 20 -23kg per bag will still be ok. In other words, if you have difficulty lifting it, the porters & crew handlers will have difficulty too.

Not nessesarilly so.

If you have a weight limit due to flying, the airline is more likely to be the arbiter. If you know the airline looking at their limits might be helpful. At Southampton 20 or 23 kgs are very unlikely to have the staff making it an issue. I have never seen any evidence of bags being weighed there.

Thanks John. We're not coming back so hopefully our 24kg bags won't be an issue!!!

What do you mean by this?

A reasonably fit 80 year old can easily lift a 23 k case but there are many who can't so the lifting test is not valid. Safe to say that the porters (Southampton) who are the most pleasant of guys will have the boot/trunk of your car open and the cases half way to the ship before you unfasten your seat belt, and you have to chase after them to give them a tip.

It's manual handling regs that determine permissible weights, which are always somewhat on low side.

We are returning from NY in September and Cunard have booked us on Flybe from Southampton to Manchester but the weight limit on Flybe is 20kg.

We usually use Flybe to travel from Scotland to Southampton, my recollection is that you can pay for additional weight in bands, (need to check the Flybe website to confirm what they are), so can have a case more than 20kg. Only thing is we book the flight and choose or luggage weight, not Cunard.

It might be worth checking that, I am flying with Flybe next month and my confirmation says 23Kg (that's Cardiff to Paris though).
