If I give a Gift Card, will I get cash back?

I purchased some Carnival gift cards which I intend to give to Guest Services when I board.

From cruising in the past, I know that if I give cash, I get cash back at the end of the cruise (assuming I haven't spent it all of course!.

 

Have any of you given ONLY gift cards to use as your onboard account? And did you receive cash back, or a gift card, or a check?

I added a gift card to my account onboard. At the end of the cruise, I had not used all of the balance. A week or so after the cruise, I received in the mail a new gift card for the balance.

Technically, you get a gift card for the unused balance. I have used the casino trick to cash out at the end to avoid that, though.

Was on the Splendor in May. I set up my account with credit card but did apply a large balance of gift cards to my account. I received a check back in the mail.

You go to a slot machine, load up the money that's left on your card as if you intend to gamble with it. There is not fee at the slot machines. Play one round and then cash out. Go to the booth and they will give you cash for you "winnings".

In May I had several hundred dollars left from gift cards, I went to Guest Services and they gave me cash back. I was given choice of doing that or waiting for a check.
