Empress of the Seas...Leaving today

Recommended Posts

Hi all....just a quick note.

We are leaving later today for Puerto Rico. Yucky flights, so we will be there tomorrow at 4:40pm. One night at the Marriott in the Condado area, then on to the ship the next day.

For all the future cruisers of the Empress....If anyone has specific questions or would like me to check something out at any of these islands, please leave me a quick note today and I'll check back before I leave for the airport.

We have booked only a few excursions so far...the Brig Unicorn on St. Lucia (did that before and we had a blast), Stingray at Antigua.....I'll post a review on the shore excursions we do. I'd hoped to prebook more, however the kids can't make up there minds on which ones they want.

I promise I will post a detailed review once I get back on the 18th of December. I will also post information for those that travel with teens...we have 4 of them...ouch

Teegeezfun - There was no mystery night last year - at least I don't remember there being one.

Robintennis - first of all I hope you have a great cruise and good luck with those teens LOL We did this cruise last year and liked it so much we're doing it again this year. Just wondering what if anything has changed.

1) What nights are formal?

2) We got to Curacao at 9 not 11- what time did you get there?

3) Captain said we'd see the Pitons around 6am but by then we were docked.

4) Left Margarita Island between 4-4:30, not 3. What time did you leave?

5) Who is the Captain now?

6) Are there safes in ALL rooms now? We were told last year they were installing them.

I guess these are mostly things you can answer in your review but I'd sure like to know the answers. Thanks and have a super time. Cathy

Hope to see you all on board- isn't it advantageous to book excursions in port?

Cathy-Called and told no safe in my room: inside/L

what are the "Pitons" why is it important to see them? (get up at 6am on vacation?)

Does anyone have recommendations for "must see" excursions for any of the ports we are going to ?

robintennis......if you have a waiter names Sixto, he's the best on the ship. I would even recommend asking for him. If you get him tell him Joyce in Ohio said hi. I was just talking to my best friend on the Empress today and he says it's beautiful today in St. Thomas. He is a cabin attendant from St. Vincent, Jermaine, so if you get a chance to tell him hello for me that would be great.

If you need to know some good bartenders/servers..... Lorenzo Sam, Cameron, Gabby, Denise, Simeer, and one of the bar managers, Xavior. After 11 nights on this ship you will feel like these folks are family if you choose to get to know them.

The Brig Unicorn was not in port last time I was there....they were making the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It is a great time.

Michiganmavin....the Pitons are a very famous landmark for the island. It is very worth getting up at 6 to see.....because you will never see anything else like it.

Have fun! As you can see from my signature, I love this ship. :-)

Michiganmavin - The Pitons are like twin mountains and are beautiful. And, yes we did get up at 6 to see them. Needless to say hubby wasn't thrilled getting up that early after a late night in the casino - especially since we didn't get to see them.

We are in a category F, outside. We didn't have a safe last year either but did get a safe deposit box. Not bad, but you have to stand in line to get to the area. Just much more convenient in the room.

I'll check on all of the inquiries everyone has posted here.

I will also look up Sixto for a waiter..he sounds great

Michigan Maven....are you booked in for the mix and mingle...if not, sign up on the board. It should be fun

I will definately look up the "Mystery Night"...if it is a murder mystery style show, I would love to attend that....so I will search that out. Also can't wait to see Marty Allen....apparently he is the entertainer....I loved watching him on the Virginia Graham & Michael Douglas shows as a kid.

Bye for now.....time to head to the airport. We almost need a separate vehicle for all the luggage. There are 6 people, so 12 suitcases and 6 carry on....sheesh

  • 2 weeks later...
Have a great trip! We're going on Empress Jan 16th (with 2 nights in San Juan first). SO looking forward to 2 weeks away from winter here in Winnipeg.

So are we from little old England where it will be cold and wet too, although not as cold as Winnipeg in January!! Have you registered on 'Meet and Mingle' yet? We have and I note that there ar 24 to date, only one more required for the 'party'. Gwenda and I are new to RCI, having been with Princess and Cunard in the past. we are really looking forward to our trip and I'm eagerly awaiting our documentation
