We were on the Inspiration in December for a 3 day cruise and yes, night 2 was formal

People tend to dress very informal on the 3 day cruises.

There is "elegant night" few people do any dressing up on the three day cruises.

I see the 20-somethings dressing up on the one elegant night on 3-day cruises. Everyone else puts on clean jeans. :D

 

Or clean shorts for the MDR :)

I just got off a 5-day cruise. Elegant night should have been called "street walker attire optional". I was surprised.....

It really is anything goes and I didn't see anyone turned away, so try not to worry!

As others have stated, yes, there is a cruise elegant evening on the 3 night cruises. On our recent Liberty cruise, it was on the 2nd night after the stop in Nassau. We were pleasantly surprised to see quite a few tuxedos and evening gowns on fellow guests. :)

The first time I have seen someone turned away in a long time was this past weekend on Victory. A couple came to Tea Time in swim suits wrapped in towels. Amazing....

Yes, amazing! But I think you will find that more frequently on a Carnival ship, than RCCL, NCL, or most definetly never on Celebrity! Sad! I always carry a full cover dress to slip over my suit if I want to go in for any food.
