There are no DIRECT trains between Rome FCO Airport and Civitavecchia .

It is done in two stages . From FCO Airport you take the LEONARDO Express to Roma Termini station, unbooked and runs every 30 minutes .

From Roma Termini trains leave at frequent intervals for CIVITAVECCHIA . Look up the timetable on Trenitalia website

Trips takes 40 minutes, if you select unbooked REGIONAL trains you will NOT require any seat reservations.

For passengers coming from the North of Italy from Genova, La Spezia, Livorno, Grosetto and Pisa especially the Coastal line also brings you direct to Civitavecchia (without having to go through Roma Termini.) . Even from Milano, Firenze & Venezia with a change of trains en route you can use the coastal line down from Pisa to access Civitavecchia .

It makes no sense to take the LE to Termini, it is always more expensive this way and in almost every case it doesn't save any (or not much) time.

The most direct route is the regional train to Roma Trastevere (it's the FL1 line but the ultimate destination for the train will be either Fara Sabina, Poggio Mirteto, or Orte) and change there for the train to Civitavecchia.

The fare is €11 and takes between 90 minutes - two hours. The fastest connections via Termini take at least 90 minutes as well but cost up to €30.

At Civitavecchia the station is less than half a mile from the southern (pedestrian only) entrance to the port. They can direct you from there to the free port shuttle bus.

There are two ways to do this by train. We never bother with the Leonardo Express and we avoid Termini altogether if we are going directly to the port from the airport.

We book a ticket to Civ. fromFCO. We take the stopping train into Rome. About four -six stops. We change trains ( at Ostiense or Trastevere) BEFORE Termini at a smaller station. Less crowded. I think the fare is about 8E less as well. We do it for the convenience. When you buy your ticket the agent with tell you where to change trains. It will also be shown on the ticket.

One issue is the station elevator. You will probably have to change tracks by walking under and back up. There are elevators but our experience is that they are out of service about half of the time. We never bother with them but we only travel with carry on. If you have heavy bags or lots of them it could be a physical challenge.
