Land Taxis in Venice

Recommended Posts

My 22 year old daughter and myself will be on the 5/19 Westerdam cruise. Since we are traveling along and I am TOTALLY unfamiliar with Venice, I was wondering if land taxis are very common. I would be interested in taking one from the airport to the hotel and then back to the cruise terminal the next day. To me, that would be much easier than dealing with buses, luggage, etc. and perhaps ending up in the wrong location. Thanks in advance for your reply and if you wish to reply privately, my email address is: Jaymuxman@aol.com.

The cost of a land taxi to the cruise terminal is given as around €30 E and as for taking a land taxi to your hotel,it would depend on where your hotel is as to hear near a land taxi could get to your hotel as Piazzale Roma is as near as land taxis get to Central Venice. You may find it easier to take the Airport Boat Service (WWW.alilaguna.it) Other Websites that may be of use to you are WWW.actv.it & WWW.turismovenezia.it and WWW.veniceairport.it and WWW.vtp.it.

There are very very few hotels that can be accessed by a land taxi. Most of these hotels are located adjacent to the train station or in the Mestre area which are not likely locations for your hotel. The easiest way to get to most Venice hotels from the airport is to take a water taxi from the airport dock. The problem is that these taxis (which are a lot of fun) are very expensive and you can expect to pay approximately $100 for the journey. If you have a lot of luggage, it might be worth the money. There are some alternatives, but they are not convenient for two ladies traveling with luggage.

Taxi to cruise terminal from airport cost us 40 euros this year & last year, still a lot cheaper than HAL transfers.
As presumably you are arriving earlier you can get either a taxi or the bus to piazza Roma. Bus is easy to find, straight out terminal cross the first road & you want a blue bus to P Roma cost 3 euros each. We used this route coming back as we found a left luggage office at top of P Roma & had a very late flight home. cost 3euros per bag, used a 10.50E 24 hr ticket to tour Venice on the vaporettos that leave at side of P Roma
