lesliew Posted September 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2017 Is there anywhere to see Penguins on the West Coast of South America? We are the the NCL Sun December 2017 and wondering if we might be able to see any? I have searched threads they all seem to focus on Falklands to see them.... Thanks in advance LeslieW
OzCanuck Posted September 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2017 It's not really on the west coast, but Punta Arenas provides an opportunity on Isla Magdalena.
capriccio Posted September 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2017 If your cruise is starting or ending in Valparaiso this won't be any help....(but maybe it will help someone else :D). On our LA to Valparaiso cruise (followed by Valparaiso to Rio) last winter we had a stop in San Martin, Peru south of Lima. The nearby little town of Paracas is known for boat rides (we went with South American's Secrets) to the Ballestas Islands, home to Humboldt penguins in addition to a wide variety of sea and wildlife (especially birds). You circumnavigate the islands on the boat so the penguins aren't close up and personal like they are in the Falklands and Magdalena Island (Punta Arenas).
