Lacaena Posted September 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2017 Hi everyone! Quick question, my husband and I are gluten free by choice. In the past when we have cruised we've gone "off the wagon" and eaten whatever we want. I'd really like to avoid that and stay gluten free for our next cruise. I know that I could inform them that I have special dietary "needs" but I don't want to be a PITA and I also don't want to limit myself in case I do want a little cheat here or there. So question is, if I don't tell them in advance that I'm gluten free will I still have access to gluten free options? Thanks in advance!
mjkacmom Posted September 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2017 If you want special gluten free options, you will need to let them know, meals with items such as gluten free pancakes, pasta, etc, are ordered in advance. You can always ask what menu items don't contain gluten.
Candy Apple 12 Posted October 2, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2017 If you plan on eating any of the items that the cruise line buys for gluten-free customers who must eat gluten-free, please notify the cruise line prior to sailing. This allows the cruise line to order a sufficient amount of these specialty items (i.e. GF bread, pasta) for the entire length of the cruise for those guests needing GF food. If you don't tell them ahead of time, the GF provisions may run out before the end of the cruise, which has happened. This is no problem for you because, as you said, you can cheat. It is a problem for those who cannot cheat. You can always cheat at the buffet.
cb at sea Posted October 2, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 2, 2017 Unless you have a sensitivity to gluten, there is nothing wrong with it. I would simply pick and choose the food items I wanted...and reserve the "gluten free" offerings for those who really need it.
