Organizing Slot Pull Questions

So I know to notify John and the basics but have a few questions. Does it matter what machine we use for the slot pull? When you finish do you cash out on your card and go to cashier? Do you or anyone have their card in the machine to earn points during the slot pull?

If you notify the Casino Manager and have him help set it up.......your rules, ie 5 pulls for $20, everyone plays same machine, you should get prizes. Last year we were a group of about 40, one of us won a free cruise and many won free tee shirts. This was on RCI, but it is free to ask.

Usually the organizer puts their card in and gets the points.

I have organized many slot pulls and do not put my card in. I don’t think it’s fair. Why wouldn’t other pullers want to put theirs in for their spins. Easier and less issues if no card is in.

If you let him know he talks with casino manager and gets prizes to have to go with the event

We ask many others for prizes. Cruise director, Crown and Anchor Ambassador, Port shopping host, and casino. We get things from all of them and the casino host. Top 10 spinners get prizes collected and everyone gets something. The folks onboard RC have been great to give me lots of prizes to give.

How do you cash out?

I do think the organizer should get the points. Really it isn't that many. On a seven day cruise you need 1500 points to get a DOU card. That means you have to play $3,700 through the machine.

If you have 25 players and each play $20 you would only earn 200 points. For the work of organization it is a pittance.

I think a more important point is making sure everyone understand who is going to pay the taxes if a big win occurs.

Good point I never thought about the taxes....how much do you have to win in order to pay taxes on something and can I ask what you have had in place for that?

A winning of $1199 or more on one pull (which would also require an attendant payout) is considered earned Income and is taxable (and reported by the cruiseline) IF AND I SAY IF,, the player of record is a US citizen.

So with that being said do you put a stipulation saying who ever is pulling at the time of the winning of $1199 or more is responsible for the taxes on that part? And then how do you figure out how much is going to be left to split with group

In Canada, we do not pay taxes on lottery winnings, casino etc. -only on the interest earned in subsequent years. So .... if there is a Canadian on your slot pull - have them say they won the money and then you can all share.:D

I have organized slot pulls and do not have a card and no one participating in the slot pull asked to put their card in. Just lucky I guess as the situation did not come up.

We just got off Freedom yesterday and I was not the organizer, and the organizers Card was not inserted. It was stated in the activity description that no cards would be inserted. One person did walk up and start to insert theirs and was reminded not to.

Since it is all in FUN....we usually ask, who is close to DOU, then let them put in their card...... Maybe we bump into them later....:) Just kiddin' , but we usually do ask.

The organizer Def deserves to put their card in. They’ve done all the work getting the slot pull together and they really don’t get that many points anyway

On my next cruise it’s a Ultra Casino one and we already have over 100 people who are participating. It’s going to be the largest slot pull I’ve been in 😜😜💰

You find a good $1 machine. We’re picking a $1 machine with a $5 max bet. Each person puts in $20 and gets 4 spins

On my first slot pull I ran out of singles to pay everyone the correct payback. I Had to beg the casino and guest services for singles. They did not want to give up all their singles to one individual. Ever since then I have bought my own singles on board and then exchanged for larger bill after the pull was over.

Well, now it’s all moot according to John’s Facebook post.

All because whiney little busybodies can’t play well together and think someone else is getting more than they did,,,, John can no longer get himself or the casino involved in helping to organize a “slot pull”.

Congratulations to those who cried and got too technical and just took the fun out of it.

Really????? First, the odds of it happening are not worth the time to discuss up front. Second,,, damn,,, be happy and enjoy being with friends,,,, Third,,, figure it out at the bar over drinks.

4th,,, whomever pulled the taxable gets the 1099. The first 25% of the cash payout goes to that person for the taxes. The rest gets split evenly amongst all persons in the pull.

This is a good idea. I too have had problems getting enough $1.00s from Casino Cage. I will also have a number of $100.00s on hand also to 'feed' the machine in the beginning rather than taking a bunch of time inserting smaller bills.

Here are the 'rules' I have used in the past.....Got them from another Slot Pull 'organizer' I sailed with years ago.

Slot Pull Rules

1. The entrance fee is $15 per person

2. Official sign up will be at the Casino Bar at noon on ___________________.

3. We will use a dollar machine. We will play the maximumbet on the machine, we want a mechanical machine if possible.

4. Number of spins will be 5 at $3 max bet. Everyone willhit the play max button.

5. All slot money will be put into the machine before thefirst pull.

6. Once the first max button has been hit, no one else canjoin in and the game is closed. The slot pull will end after the last personentered has taken their turn on the slot machine.

7. Participation will be in the order of slot pull sign up.If you are "not" there when it’s your turn, you will be moved to thebottom of the list.

8. I will need a designated person to check names off thelist and they will record the amount of all of the pulls and to assist me withpaying everyone. (let’s hope it huge)

9. If we hit a large Jackpot, we will collect the payout andput all BUT the winnings back in another machine. The remaining folks will thenstart on the new machine. (We do this to improve our chances because once amachine hits big, the chances of it doing it again are very slim.)

10. You have to be with the group at the finish to collectyour share of the winnings. (I don't want to spend my time trying to track downpeople to give them their money.) please meet me back at the same bar we firstmet up with before the slot pull, you will be paid there and pay winner(s) ofthe highest pull

11. The winnings will be distributed equally, except thatthey will be rounded down to the nearest dollar. The person who pull thehighest winning in their pulls gets the left over change. In case of a tie itwill be split equally.

12. The person who is assisting me and myself will need togo to the casino cashier to break down the money, so I have the right bills topay everyone out.

13. no rule here as 13 is unlucky ;-)

14. Remember, this is a fun event to maybe gain a fewdollars and enjoy the company of others in your group. I encourage everyone tocheer on the slot pullers and mingle with others in the group.

15. I will make contact with the Casino Manager the daybefore our slot pull and let them know what we are planning. Hopefully he/shewill have some prize drawings during your event. If they do, make sure everyoneknows the Casino Manager's name for their comment cards at the end of thecruise

We always talk to the casino host and remind them to please have plenty of ones on hand. Have never had a problem because of that.

You talk to them once getting on board or before the cruise?

On RC, I contact the host ahead of the cruise, introduce myself, and tell. Them I’ll stop by to see them after boarding. I do that about a month ahead. I tell them our tentative date/time and ask if that works for them. I tell them that we don’t need anything but to please have extra ones ready for us. Then, I follow through onboard and nicely remind them again. Has always worked.
