This place looks so cool!! I would love to go there when we on our cruise in July. How did you get there? It's not clear on his website. Did you arrange to get yourself there or is there some sort of tour bus that will take you there from the port? I'd love to know! Thanks!

We did it through the ship. You meet just a few feet from your ship and then they escort you to the ferry. You take a lovely ferry ride where you get to see some small waterfalls and they give you all kinds of historical information and ecological information about the area. And then once you get there you take a private bus ride, albeit on a school bus, to The Refuge. And then the same thing in reverse. I don't even know how you would do it privately. Our bus driver made some comment about if you can get ahold of him he will organize a private tour but it didn't sound like it made much sense to do it that way.

We toured Kroschel when we were in Haines. We booked directly and rented a car for the day and were able to visit other places in the area. From Skagway it is more complicated and makes for a long day, so I would recommend doing it through the ship, if available. That way the ship will wait if the tour is running late.

Kroschel is interesting, but I would not choose it over the bus / train combo trip to Emerald Lake with Chilkoot Tours. Kroschel is much easier from Haines, if you think you may do another cruise to Alaska and will have an itinerary with that port, I would personally take advantage of what is in Skagway.
