Don and Denise Posted January 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2018 We are going on Cruise 24th January 2018 with Princess from Singapore visiting at Malaysia , Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. We have purchased some Singapore dollars and US dollars, however could anyone please advise whether it is best to also take a small amount of each local currency for the other stop overs. Appreciate any advice Denise and Don
easyboy Posted January 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2018 There is a cruiser (Croptop) who just got off Sapphire and did a live thread. You can post on the thread and quote one of Croptop’s post and ask about the amount of local currency that is needed for each port. Rare Keith1010 Posted January 11, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2018 My experience is that we have always used USA currency in Vietnam and Cambodia for small purchases and credit cards for large purchases. We use local Singapore currency for all cash purchases although they would take USA currency in some places but we find we do better in terms of purchases by just staying with their local currency. maryann ns Posted January 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2018 ATMs in Cambodia dispense $US and that is the currency of choice there as their own (riel) is not convertable. In Vietnam you may pay a bit more using $US than their dong but if you only need a bit that may be the way to go (along with credit cards.) Otherwise for Vietnam go to an ATM.
