There are three of us , one person is 83 and can not walk long distances . Would like to see wildlife but what are we likely to see - June 6 th trip on Holland America We rented a car from Captains Choice in Haines last May. They picked us up at the port and drove us to their location a few blocks away. The car was an older Subaru, but served the purpose for what we wanted and the price was reasonable. We drove to Chilkoot Lake, Chilkat State Park and up the Haines Highway to Kroschel Wildlife Center. You can drive into Canada as well, just bring your passports. The scenery is beautiful. Kroschel was great, but I would not recommend it for someone with mobility issues. There is quite a bit of walking up and down hills and on uneven ground, mud, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Glaciers Posted February 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2018 The past two times in Haines we’ve used Avis in the Hotel Hasingland. It’s about ¼ mile walk from the dock. One person could get the car and drive back to the ship to pick up the rest of the group. We drove out to Chilkat State Park and saw bald eagles there as well as on the way past Mud Bay. We also drove out to Chilkoot Lake Recreation Site. I’m not really a fan of captive animals although there is a need many times, the Kroschel Wildife Center gets good reviews. http://www.kroschelfilms.com/
