Celebrity Luggage Tags and Other Questions

While my wife and I have cruised on Celebrity six times in the past, our upcoming cruise will be our first one back on Celebrity in several years. We are looking forward to the cruise, with fond memories about Celebrity.

I do have a question. I keep reading how when you do the pre-cruise paperwork on line that you receive luggage tags on line. Is that correct? Does Celebrity no longer send you the traditional luggage tags to note passengers name and cabin number? If not, aren't the e-tags flimsy (eg., computer paper) and how do you attach them to the luggage. Maybe, I'm just all confused on what I've read.

Also, how far in advance can you make restaurant reservations at the specialty restaurant. Is that done by calling the Captain's Club number and is there away of finding out in advance which nights are formal nights as we don't want to make a reservation on one of those nights?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Keith! Welcome back to Celebrity. They still send the books, but not to everyone not all the time! Does that make sense??? Neither does their method for sending or not sending them! It's a crap shoot. We have always gotten the books, never the edocs.

You can call Captain's Club I believe 30 or 60 days out for Sepcialty restaurant reservations. Depends on the itinerary, but yes you can tell which nights will be formal from your itinerary--which one are you sailing?

If your TA is an e-doc agency, you will likely receive e-docs, including the luggage tag (you need to make copies of the one they send you, find some way to make them a bit more durable, like laminating) and then put them on your luggage. The alternative is to get luggage tags from the porters at the pier. Truly, it is a bit of a hassle so that a few bucks can be saved on postage.

But, if you agency is not set up for e-docs, you will likely receive traditional paper documents.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both for the explanation. My TA is a traditional TA so that is good to know as we would prerfer the traditional documents, including luggage tags.

We are on the March 26th Summit cruise to Hawaii.

We are looking forward to cruising again on Celebrity.

We were on Nov.17 sailing of Century, and I gave our information online, and ran off an express pass. There was nothing else that I had to run off that I know of, but to be sure, I ran off our itinerary which included the fact that we had purchased to/from transfers, because, at that time, I had no idea what we would receive from Celebrity via our TA. We still received all the paper documentation, including the luggage tags, boarding pass, credit card info etc. I thought it was overdone, but I, too, prefer the actual documents and plasticized tags. For the pier to ship transfer (and the reverse), we needed to provide the page(s) from the booklet; for boarding, we only needed the express pass, and charge card, and then our seapass was already printed for us. It did not take long to register and board, but then, it never did, really. Enjoy your cruise!

On our first cruise our agent was an e-docs agent we got our luggage tags from the porter at the pier. Being our first cruise, we did not know the difference, but it worked perfectly. This time, same agent, but I am retired now so I no longer am at the office with her, so we got docs in the mail. Do you wait and put the luggage tags on after you retrieve your bags from the airline?

We have used e documents on our last three cruises, and I am very happy with this process, with one exception. You do not have to worry about waiting until the last minute for the documents to arrive, since you can print out the necessary paperwork as soon as you make your final payment. While you can print out all of the information that is contained in your traditional document package, I usually scan that information, and print out only the information I need.

The exception I noted above, are the baggage tags. The regular tags can be obtained at the pier from the longshoremen, however you must fill in the correct information while they wait to take your bags. When sailing from Dover, last spring, the longshoremen did not have the blank tags. It took me about 40 minutes to find someone that knew were they were kept, and how to get them for me. Since then I have asked my TA to request that they mail me just the baggage tags, while I would use the e ticket process. They agreed to do that, but I wound up getting a package with the traditional documents. I have another cruise coming up in Feb, for which I have requested baggage tags, hope I can get just the tags this time.

I received my edocuments without luggage tags....there is only a copy of the info for the tags in these docs. They say you have to fill out the tags at the pier. Trouble is, we use Cruise Connection from Florida to the pier, and the driver puts luggage on the bus according to the Cruise Line (they pick up passengers for all cruise lines). With no tags I was concerned that my luggage would be misplaced. My TA (online) got the tags for me. They have the same spaces to fill in as the copy in the docs, but do not say Celebrity. Does anyone know if this is the usual tag???

We we also told that we would need to carry the booklet with us everywhere we went until we got on the Century. We board on the 2nd and we were told to carry the booklet everywhere we went. It does seem like a hassle but I think better safe then sorry!!!:D
