Is it safe to walk around in San Pedro?

We'll be staying at Best Western the night before our cruise on Ruby Princess in April. Wondered if it's safe to walk to San Pedro Brewing Co. for dinner. Looks like it's a 14 minute walk. Could take a taxi, but figured if it's a nice evening, could maybe just walk. Or is there another restaurant you could recommend...anything except Mexican. Thanks.

Worked daily in Pedro up to two years ago. Your motel is on the main "drag" in Pedro, very close to where main freeway ends. You already know how close the motel is to this restaurant. Gaffey to 6Th is the direct route and during day is very safe. Issue is you are "threading the needle" between a housing project (to the North), half way houses and numerous homeless (to the East). If you don't go out of your way to look like a target, you should be OK

We stayed at Crown Plaza in November and walked over to CVS. No problems at all. Not much around Best Western as I recall from several years ago. However, at that time they had a shuttle available for use. Try asking at desk to see if they will still do that.
