M&T Posted December 27, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2005 Our cruise ends on Feb. 5 and we want to stay one night to enjoy the beach and watch the superbowl. Is there any shopping within a few blocks of hotels such as Four Points by Sheraton, Fontainebleau, Eden Roc, Doubletree, Loews? Do you know anything about the Four Points, Eden Roc or Doubletree? Thanks Marlyne
TrentS Posted January 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2006 There's NOTHING to walk to from Fontainebleau, Four Points Sheraton (not a nice place by the way), or Eden Roc. Those hotels are not in South Beach, and you'll want a car if you're staying up there. Loews would be my choice of those hotels, wonderful place, great location! EVERYTHING you could possibly want is right there within easy walking distance. By Doubletree I assume you mean the Surfcomber??? If so, that's also in a great location and is fine. Loews and Doubletree Surfcomber are both in South Beach, where you will have many many options as far as shopping, dining, and SuperBowl parties all within quick easy walking distance of your hotel. Ditto with Trent. Unless you are in a condo, I think Mid Beach is kind of dismal. Too much traffic, the beaches aren't as wide as they are further north and further south, and there is nothing within walking distance. Love both the Doubletree Surfcomber and The Loews but the Loews is superior to the DS.

TrentS Posted January 6, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2006 Thanks. I'll look at South Beach. Marlyne A few things to be aware of when looking at South Beach hotels... Some hotels that advertise themselves as being in South Beach are not in the REAL South Beach. You generally don't want to be too far north of the 1700/1800 block or it becomes too far to walk to anything. Also be aware that South Beach is a very expensive place to stay. The hotels are quite old, and the nicer ones have been gutted and modernized - They're obviously much more expensive. There are also many that are quite cheap, and they're quite scary! These are all nice places in good locations... Rare Keith1010 Posted December 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 4, 2012 Our cruise ends on Feb. Thanks Marlyne I just read the posts about the Fountainbelau. It is a very large complex. But it does have a nice beach. And if you like to walk it is no big deal. There are several towers and a couple of nice places right in there to watch the superbowl with others. My wife usually take a taxi and get dropped off at the beginning of South Beach and we walk (about 45 minutes) to the Fountainbleau on the nice boardwalk. Within a 15 minute walk of the Fountainbleau is quite a bit of places to browse. What I am trying to say is keep an open mind as you look at places to stay. You will find a wide range of places. Take a look at Trip Advisor to read about hotels you are thinking about and to look for others. There is lots to choose from but prices will be higher this time of year. Rare Keith1010 Posted December 4, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2012 These are some photos for the Fountainbleau and surrounding area. After you click no the links and the photo shows if you click on the photo one more time you will get an even larger image. This is the boardwalk area that you can walk on for quite a while. There are parts that are wider. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EfZdXscV26Y/UL2-UFrzx_I/AAAAAAAATFA/EPqyhFnO-mU/s1600/DSC_0672.jpg This is the part of the pool area of the Fountainbleau Hotel. Not a deep beach but it will be quiet. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H3O8rQEAEbk/UL2-Q72CiTI/AAAAAAAATE4/mOwWZvvgoKw/s1600/DSC_0670.jpg Across the street from the hotel is a marina. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w4HsPllqgwA/UL2-dLnBLeI/AAAAAAAATFY/xVZ8BOrakIE/s1600/DSC_0681.jpg If you walk out and go to your left and walk about 15 minutes there will be lots of places. We visited there as I stayed there many years ago on a family vacation that my parents took me on. Hotel was renovated a few years ago. I’m not pushing this one but using it as an example to be open to looking at a range of hotels. Keith
miamiyogi Posted December 5, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 5, 2012 You didn't mention a price point. If you can swing it, I pick the South Beach Marriott. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/miamb-south-beach-marriott/
