When?

Unfortunately you are missing 2 jackpots, Denali Park and Kenai Fjords.

Whale watching out of Juneau, Keep a pair of binoculars always with you and scan for whales and eagles when out of deck.

Again- it depends when you are going for other suggestions. A "must" in my opinion, is the purchase of the add on ship tour for Tracy Arm- grossly superior compared to the cruise ship transit. A lot more opportunity for wildlife.

Six hours in Victoria means the possibility of an independent whalewatch trip - very good chance of Orca spotting if you get out on a full 3-4 hour one rather than a ship-sponsored 'sunset cruise' that's cut back in time. Not many other options of excursion to compete with it in Victoria in the evenings either.

If it's the right time of year, you can see salmon all over, Ketchikan especially as the salmon ladder is right in the heart of tourist central. Eagles you'd really have to try hard NOT to see cruising this neck of the woods!

Ketchikan - Crab Fishing on the Aleutian Ballad of TVs "Deadliest Catch" fame stops for about 20 minutes and feeds lots of eagle that swoop down to pick up the fish. Truly a photo op not to be missed.

Several types of crab fishing are demonstrated and live sea creatures are held up for photos. The stories of filming the TV series as well as fishing in the Bering Sea in the winter were fascinating. The boat has covered bleacher seating with overhead space heaters.

When are you going?

http://skagwayexcursion.com/skagway/wildlife-safari-skg/ bears in Skagway.

http://www.jayleensalaska.com/ - Whale watching in Juneau.

Have you been on these tours? Superior is to have a car rental in Haines- and it's a very limited time frame, needing a salmon run. A fixed timed tour, is significantly less than ideal. I have done Haines touring multiple times.
