konatyme Posted April 6, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2018 We have wanted to do an around Australia cruise in 2020. Recent posts seem to indicate that there will only be one in 2020 & it will be in March. I'm concerned about March being in cyclone season (though admittedly, toward the end of it). Anyone had any experience with March Australia cruises? It seems like in the past, there were some September options for around Australia, but it doesn't look like that's happening for 2020.:(
TeeRick Posted April 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2018 It depends on which part of Australia you are cruising. We just completed (March 5 departure) a 16 night from Perth on Celebrity Solstice that sailed via southern Australia (stopped in Adelaide and Melbourne) then around New Zealand and ended in Sydney. Southern Australia was dry and comfortable. No cyclone activity. However if you are doing more of a northern Australia itinerary which is much more tropical you will have a much greater chance of cyclones in March. During our cruise we heard there were a couple of cyclones near the Northern Territory and Darwin. When we sailed around New Zealand the weather was a bit cooler but there was a cyclone that hit the north island and a second one that brushed the north island just before we got there. Crossing the Tasmin Sea between Australia and New Zealand was a bit rough at times.
